Hi all,
I'm not familiar with these, but if it really is too small (I've had a look at a photo, but it is difficult to judge size) could you enlarge it with a file? I've used a knife steel successfully with clay pots.
Most of my fish have spawned in coconut shell caves. They've all been DIY...
Hi all,
It definitely needs to grow in a bit (personally I'd want at least another months worth of plant growth and substrate maturity).
That is the best start, but even with established media there are other aspects to maturity, have a look at...
Hi all,
When I had Copella callolepis (sensu Zarske) <"they spawned as soon as they were adult">. By that time they had decimated the "tank janitor" crustaceans, which may have given them the conditioning they needed.
The details are in...
Hi all,
I've kept a few different Copella spp. and that is what has happened in all the different species, they really <"don't like one another">.
Have a look at @Tom C 's web site <"https://www.tomc.no/slekt.aspx?gruppeID=5&ViewSelected=True"> and...
Hi all,
I think that is a lot of the issue. You need a lot more cover to break up "line of sight".
These are what my tanks look like, it doesn't need to be plants (although they <"help with water quality">) it could be wood and structural leaf litter.
Have a look at @MacZ 's post on tank...
Hi all,
They look like they should be in spawning condition. You need someone else to tell you whether your female "A. bitaeniata" is actually A. bitaeniata, but I'm going to assume she is.
Can we have a full tank shot? It occurs to me that the tank might be a bit bare and the female not...
Hi all,
I assumed "line-bred" only because all the males (at least six or seven grown through to adult) had the same colour and pattern.
My thought was that because A. agassizii s.l. is a polychromatic species there would have been some variation if the were wild caught etc.? I maybe wrong in...
Hi all,
I had a very similar coloured male to the OPs Apistogramma agassizii. I bought them relatively cheaply in an ordinary LFS in the UK, and the owner said they were Czech fish. I kept them through several generations and all the males showed identical markings, so I assume they are a...
Hi all,
OK, this will probably come as a surprise, but cycling, in its traditional form, doesn't really exist. The problem is that everything you read in traditional aquarium literature, or are told by LFS etc., is wrong, and will actually delay the time until your tank is stable.
There are...
Hi all,
I'm not sure, but I think they may be the inflorescences of the Echinodorus plants, they form tufts of leaves (where the flowers would be) if they remain submerged.
Cheers Darrel
Hi all,
I've had a couple show this colouration, and they both eventually died, but whether that was just unlucky, or cause and effect, I don't know.
Cheers Darrel
Hi all,
This is a "Fringed Yellow Waterlily" (Nymphoides peltata) as an invasive link <"https://invasives.ie/app/uploads/2021/09/Nymphoides_peltata_ISAP.pdf"> and this is a UKAPS thread <"https://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/small-dwarf-water-lily-from-south-america.43232/">.
cheers Darrel
I haven't tried any of them, but there are links on UKAPS, I'll link them in when I have access to a PC.
Same plant, I've seen Eleocharis in Ireland in the turloughs, where it must spend 90% of it's time underwater.
You just need to just check that it is Eleocharis, not Isolepis, which won't...
Hi all,
He has coloured up beautifully.
I'm guessing that it is an "active substrate", that will initially soften the water via ion exchange. They are / were popular with a lot SE Asian Apistogramma keepers, partially because (they claim) that they add fish colouration.
The other reason for...
