I dont' think his fin problems are from "melting". I had another male that died shortly after recieving them that had the same problem. I have also talked with some other people that also got some apistos in the group order and some of them also showed similar problems. So i think its just a...
I'm new to Apistos and bought 2 trios through a group order from out of town. Since recieving them I've wondered about a couple of them, mainly the male. His mouth looks deformed, long with his fins and "cheeks". Since i'm new to apistos, I thought he looked weird but wasn't 100% sure. I...
I just got 2 trios of Apisto. cacatuoides "triple red" and I was wondering at what size apistos usually start breeding?
Also are apistos good parents or do the eggs/fry need to be removed?
I have always wanted to get some Apisto cacatuoides and i was wondering if they will do ok in my tap water. I know apistos like low ph and soft water but i know many people keeping them in our water and even breeding. I wanted to get your oppinions and a little bit of info about my tap water...
The male isn't in this tank. He is in a different one as he was constantly chasing the female.
I think my best bet might be to get a divider and keep the female/ghost shrimp on one side and the fry on the other.
I did read that but if i leave the female in the tank with the fry will she eat them? I dont' really have another tank to put her in. So my options are leaving her with the fry(will she eat them after "parental care ceases"), putting her in the breeding trap or putting the fry in the breeding trap.
The male is in a seperate tank then the female. I have the female in a 10g with some endlers and ghost shrimp. I was going to put the female in a breeding box to spit the babies becuase i was concerned that she might eat them after releasing them or the shimp or endlers might get them also. So i...
Well its been about a 8 days since i found the female holding. I was wondering how big nicholsi babies are when she spits them? I was planning on putting the female in a Lee's breeding trap but i want to know if the babies will be small enough to fit through the holes or not.
Also whats the...
Well this afternoon i removed the female and put her into a 10g that has a couple endlers. I removed her becuase she was hiding in the corner pointing up. I thought she would be less stressed if she was in her own tank.
So i guess i'll wait and see if she produces any babies :)
Thanks, I...
I bought a pair of Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi at our club's auction this past sunday. They are about 1 1/2" for the male and 1" for the female. The male is very fiesty and was constantly chasing the female. This morning i turned on the light and noticed that the female was hiding in the...
There is nothing in my tank except for a peice of driftwood for decoration and the plants. I don't use any ferts(liquid or tabs). COuld it be that the Ro/tap water i was adding was a small percentage of the tank total volume that by the next week the tank water buffered the RO/tap back up?
I...
I"m not that concerned with the plants since they are jsut weekly cuttings i got from my other tanks, nothing special. So if i continue to use RO cut with tap water(i will change my ratio to have less tap) will my tanks ph eventually come down? Why didn't it work teh first time i tried, you...
I haven't tried staright RO before. I tried using a ratio of about 4 gals RO to 1 gal tap and that gave me a ph of about 7.2. Then i added that to my existing tank and it didn't even show a change in teh tank over all ph. I have been doing that for about 1 month now and the ph of the tank hasn't...
I have been having some problems trying to get my ph down low enough. I have a 15gal planted tank with rams and cardinals, right now my ph is 7.8 gh11 kh 8. I have been trying to use RO cut with my tap water but my ph is still always too high. I was thinking of jsut using RO and adding some...
