You should be able to add the tetras, pencilfish, & hatchets at the same time with no worries. they all are very peacefull. just make sure that they're all aclimated correctly to the new water before going in. Also, you may want to quarentine them first to make sure no ich or...
I've had Serpae tetras in the past and never had any issues with fin nipping. heard others say the opposite though. Diamonds, though exspensive from what I hear, might be well worth the investment.

15 Lemon tetras for the Stunning yellow in the tank

The fish selection looks mostly South American while the plants are mostly Asian...
Perhaps something you may want to look at for your tank is going with a specific theme...with the Apistos as the show fish, you may want to do a South American...

Bolivians are much hardier than blues so you may want to look at going with the Bolivians.

look at and contact ApistoDave first, he sells on Aquabid. I hear that all his stock is top quality and he sells in pairs. he may even have a line on some "Wilds"...
Also, if you're NOT interested in breeding the rams...
You may want to find your "6 pack" from a breeder and set it all up with siblings! Sure, there's a possibility of breeding, but agression will be even less this way.

Well, my wife just called me, it seems that 2 of my 6 Bolivian rams were having fun today and I'm wondering if this is pairing and/or spawning behavior.

Judging from the finnage, it appears that your M. Altispinosa would be a Male. Note the trailing red on the tail fin. Females don't have that feature.
Well, as they're all juves, Less than or right at 1 inch that would explain the stripes.
Now, as far as sexing them, would size be a good indicator?
Do females show any of the blue colors or is that just a male trait? I'm trying to determine if they're pairing up or just playing.

Another way to control Algae is to go with live plants that absorb the nutrients that the algae needs to grow.
Anachairis, Hornwart, cabomba, & wysteria are all great plants for this. Besides, Live plants make the tank look so much better and your Dwarf cichlids & discus will love ya for it...

I'm hoping to pick up 6 M. Altispinosa soon and hoping I can actually get 3 pairs from it. Gonna place the 6 initially in my 55 and see what pairings I might get...then once paired, the odd ones will go to my 25.
I'm working on getting some Bloivian Rams and was wondering if them being siblings/from the same spawn would be an issue?
Or do fish not matter much when siblings breed/spawn in regards to defects/deformities?
