Hello fishy people.
I think these are probably Ap. macmasteri but they are being sold as Ap. viejita ... hoping someone here can give me some backup on what they are. Thanks heaps from Canada.
probably any apisto is ok for a 20L. if you are going to keep the current female in the tank you should try to get others (1m 1 or 2 f) of the same species. If you don't want to breed them then get species that are different than your currenti so they won't interbreed and hopefully will get...
Hi all,
I purchased these as Apistogramma ortegai but after reading posts here wonder if they are actually the cf ortegai/pebas. I have 2 females that have both bred with the male multiple times so they are very proific but I am not sure that they are the true ortegai as they show more than 2...
yes....that is the question we all have to answer...male or female or sleeper...or ,,,, lol
best advice as Mike says is know your fish and always remember that females get yellow coloured when they are mature...

For me its very hard to sex juvenile apistogramma reliably as they all tend to stay in the female coloration until mature. The exception i've found is with species that have dorsal fin extensions in the males (like cacatuoides and macmasteri) sometimes you can see these early on but for the...
Hey Scott,
Sorry I just have a pair of fish that I am trying to breed and don't have any extra. I did see some at an LFS in Port Coquitlam,BC (Petland). They may ship for you and I also think that Wetspot tropical fish in Portland has some also. Lastly check Aquabid and they will probably...
Hello fellow apisto-addicts.
i am breeding A. hongsloi and have 2 pairs of domestic bred fish that were sold to me as A. hongsloi species. I just picked up a trio 1m/2f of the A. hogsloi form ii from a LFS. I was thinking to mix and match the fish to diversify my gene pool as all of these...
