Probably OK in a 4-ft long tank, decorated to encourage territories at the far ends, and plenty of tetras, rasboras, etc to distract them. Buts it's always best to have extra tanks in case trouble breaks out.

Your aggies will age faster (and probably die sooner) if kept at the higher temperatures Rams need. If the Rams are kept at temperatures more to the liking of aggies, then their metabolism will be lower and they are more susceptible diseases. If you are OK with this, then gerald is right on.

I tried keeping pair of blue rams and pair agassizi with no breeding, the male though wants to control whole 4ft tank escorting rams across the space and demonstrates the finnage and occasionally bites them causing stress to rams. Initially i thought it may work but does not seem so. meantime that combination with borelli works relatively well. they seem living in peace, sometimes male rams nudge them.

thank you, thats a good point. i tried 27c which recognized too low for rams but fine for aggies.

following my unsuccesful attempt on keeping a pair fire gold with rams i decided to introduce a harem of wild caught agassizi, blue variant. interestingly they do relatively well with rams. the male is focused on females and does not care about rams. they only exchanged finnage stretch when they get closer. i will keep monitoring. my tank is 125/50/40. i keep 20 nannostomus trifasciatus 8 oto 4 peruvian angels, pair of rams and 1+2 aggassizi. Temp is 27c ph 6.4 gh 5, kh 2. rams are doing fine, the problem emerges when it comes to breeding, i think temp should be higher and ph somewhat lower to develop it properly. my rams

Andris... Your Rams are very nice and clearly a male and female, just wondering if they are a mated pair? I've a pair currently that are extremely aggressive towards any other dwarf Cichlid in the tank a few days prior to spawning. Interestingly, the other Rams in the tank are the only target for the mated pair at other times and get chased a fair bit, but during this period just before spawning they change from run away mode and start standing their ground and sparring with the mated pair.

hi Ade, It has just started with aggassizi - couple days but initial experience is promising. i think what is helping is that other fish distract them. my rams are in general not aggresive towards other fish other than occasional nudge to nannnostomus or other fish. when they breed they become agressive indeed with regards to area where the eggs are. they spend most time there and no fish is permitted nearby. generally it worked well in the past - although the eggs were not fully developed amid water temperature at 26-27 or eggs were consumed when fish was young. I only once time had fry born but within a week they were gone. i shall see how it goes with agassizi. Also when it comes to aggasizi spawning...

With regards to egg development i think raising water temperature to 28-30c is key.

further update. agassizi definitely bully rams as they became better housed. rams keep colors but do not seem to like it and no intention to breed was manifested. rams tend to go to middle part of tank more often and have to very careful when they do bottom dwelling. this is far from nature and i abandon this idea after 2 months.

I have 2 electric blue rams and 3 German Blue Rams with my 2 apistogramma hongsloi super reds... I've not had a single problem with them together. They are in a 91g tank with 7 discus and a school of rummy nose tetras I have live plants, dragon rock, several branches and a bonzai tree with moss growing on it
