Although the body color is unusual, the dark markings and finnage are the same as A. atahualpa. If accurate, the new fish comes from the Rio Tapiche, an eastern tributary of the Rio Ucayali. A. atahualpa comes from the Rio Nanay, a western tributary of the Rio Ucayali. Still, this new fish probably is only a geographic color morph of A. atahualpa. My question is why is it called A. sp. New Tail Stripe? I see no stripes on the tail. There is an atahualpa-like form that has a rows of vertical stripes on the tail. It was collected by Julio Melgar in 2001. It came from the west side of the Rio Ucayali, like A. atahualpa. Thanks for letting us know about this interesting new fish. Is the importer Rio Negro-Taiwan?

A. sp. Sunrise, an atahualpa-like fish with a double tipped tail, is the most recently discovered apisto that I know about.

Thanks Mike for the prompt reply. So, there is no new discovery after the "Sunrise"...
The importer in Taiwan is called "big rice", URL: http://my.so-net.net.tw/bigrice/
... i think it's different from Rio Negro. ^_^

I agree with Mike, looks like an atahaulpa morph to me. Very pretty fish none the less, hope to get some here in the near future myself.

yes, it form does look very Ap. Atahualpa. and i have also visited this "Big Rice" chap in Taipei.

He operates out of this house which is next to "Si Ling" night market and he claims that most of his apistos are from Oliver Lucanus .
