Oh my, I may have just found a source for Coral Red Pencil fish!!! I am so excited. I have been looking for these for six months. Now, Mark at annubias Design, (the Yahoo group and fish /plant importer) has told me he thinks he can bring in about 100 of these at the end of the month!!

I am so excited. I think these are just gorgeous fish. Has anyone here used them as dithers before?

Mark has gotten me some pretty terrific fish in the past. Nannostomus Eques.. splash tetras.. ect.. and he actually is a great source of different apistos ,not to mention unusual angels, bettas, ect.. but the coral reds have been elusive.

He doesn't ever advertise, but he did give me permission to let folks know the corals are probably coming since they are so hard to find ;)

Hi there,

I've used them (and in some cases still using them) succesfully as dithers in with my breeding pairs of:

Ap. eremnopyge
Ap. bitaeniata
Ap. atahualpa
Ap. baenschi

The only breeding pairs of Apisto's that didn't get on with them were my panduro's where I pulled them out after a couple of days.

Apart from that they work fine in my Apisto stock tanks.

They are a dwarf species of pencilfish, getting about 3.5 cm/1½" long. They are as hearty as the typical Dwarf Pencilfish, N. marginatus, which is quite hearty.

Absolutely stunning fish , and Andrew Wood has fewer now than he used to cos I bought most of them off him last weekend

Most excellent dithers bringing my new Apisto. Sp. "Marado"s out to play.
