How to make your apistogramma less shy

I got my new apistogramma a day ago after my last apistogramma hongsloi jumped out of my tank.
He has Not come out a lot. I do have dither fish in the tank but he is staying at the same spot behind one of the plants
If any of you have suggestions on how to make him less shy please tell me

Give it time to learn about its new home. If in a week or 2 it still continually hides it is time to look at how the aquarium is laid out. Does it have multiple places in the tank where an apisto can quickly dart into if frightened? Is the lighting too bright? Is the aquarium to low (shadows crossing the top when you walk by)?

My hongsloi jumped out of a marina container i was using to grow them out - but since i put them in the 29 they aren't super shy - well the males aren't. The females don't hide per sey they just don't show themselves a lot in front. The males comes up and eat at the top when i feed the angels frys (now 6 weeks old) I have in the tank. Note that the hongsloi i have are still pretty young. I guess 3 to 4 months. I could try to figure it out if it actually matters.
