New to Apistogrammas, but I am starting out trying to breed some Orange Flash cacatuoides. From the information it seems I may have the best chance to breed this species initially. I recently acquired, from a local pet store, 6 juveniles that were tank raised. The aquarium setup is a 33 gallon (125 liters) with lots of caves and hiding places. Along with the Apistos are some Rasboras, pencils and cory cats. Hopefully, this will be a good environment for them to breed.
I have been in the aquarium hobby all my life and enjoy trying to breed new species. My home water has a high PH so trying to adjust with leaves, alder cones and peat moss. I am looking forward to reading all the great information in this community as I learn about keeping dwarf cichlids.

    Welcome from Fairfax VA.

What about collecting snow and/or rain water for soft water?

Great idea, and I just brought some rain/snow water into the fish room this morning. I tested the PH and it is around 6.8/.6 range.

Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated.

Welcome. I suggest that you do a search here about breeding apistos in the same tank with corys. It often doesn't work out well.

In the summer I keep rainwater collected in my Tubs.

Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated.
Ok thanks for the info. I will research.
