Females apistogramma cacatuoides colors communication

Hello,

I'm new on this forum.
I would like to ask two questions.
1) Do you know an article about apistogramma cacatuoides colors and communication ? Scientific paper if possible
2) I have 2 females apistogramma cacatuoides and i separated them. Since separation they are displaying darkers colors and not the usual contrasted marks. Why ?

1. I know of none specifically dealing with A. cacatuoides, but a similar scientific study was done in the late 1960s dealing with A. trifasciata.

2. I recommend that you read the following 2 chapters: 'Evolution of the Pattern of Markings' and 'Ethology' in Koslowski's 2002 book; very detailed.
