Detritus Worms

I went to the LFS today to stock up on Savu Pods and I overheard another customer talking about how he cultures detritus worms for his Apistogramma.

I personally like having them in my tanks in moderation as I do notice my juveniles munching on them from time to time, but never heard of aquarists culturing them for food.

Thoughts?

Detritus worms come in by way of plants usually and belong in a healthy tank in my opinion. Most of the time you don't see them. Culturing is not really necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if that person mistook similar worms for detritus worms.

Same as Ben I'd rather culture bigger worms and other things.

Also I don’t think “detritus worms” refers to a single species, so I’m not sure how to culture them in higher quantities than they naturally occur.

Of course it's a basket term for dozens of species. I doubt you have the same in North America we have in Europe or those in Asia.

Good information.
I typically even out the population by transplanting some substrate between my tanks.
I always enjoy my pairs and fry having the ability to have a snack between normal feeding times.
