I saw some apistogramma agassizii "double red" at the lfs for $20 a pair and i really want to get them since i don't see many apistos around here, and I was wondering if a pair of agassizii would work in a tank with a ph. 7.6-7.8. this would just be for keeping them healthy for now, and i would lower it when i decide to try to breed them.

Also what is the difference between "double red" and "red/gold" ?

Quite often, not alot. Usually DRs have a bluer body and RG have a yellower body, but these are aquarium strain fish for the most part and are subject to crossings that produce varied results. They are also somewhat variable in general (polychromatic). If it is a blue aggie with red to orange fins, I would just consider it a "Double red".
