I bought a "pair of Apistogramma mendezi" wich seems to be two males of Ap. gibbiceps. I used Römers id-key to put the guess to gibbiceps.

Do any other apistogramma have dark bars under the lateral line?

Yes, A. personata & A. iniridae show (slightly diagonal) bars on the abdominal area. Both of these species have rows of spot over all or most of the central part of the caudal fin. A. gibbiceps has darker stripes that parallel the caudal fin rays, & only rarely show a few spot.
