    little advice

My LFS had A.panduro (I bought 2 obvious pairs), but today they got some A. nijesseni in. Color wise, I thinking these are the best looking of all apistos....... but, how do I tell the difference between the two? I did not buy and of the nijesseni, but looking at what they had today, they both...

    Looking for an ID

I love low pressure storms........ They spawned last night. Looks like your assessment of the "pair" was correct. I'll post up some pictures if I get the fry raised out

Thanks for the info.... I’ll set the two of them up as a pair and see what happens. They are wild caught from the same local so hopefully they are a match

I finally got a picture of the other "female". Do you think "she's" an A. paulmueller female?

    Looking for an ID

These were sold to me as Apistogramma "Diamond" I was assuming they were Apistogramma sp "diamente", (Apistogramma eremnopyge) but now that they have matured I am not so sure. I am not seeing the red and blue colors that are described for them. I know they are WC, but they were not able to...

    Flourish Excell

Check your nitrate to phosphate ratio. I have found that when I get less than 10:1, I start to develop BBA. Going in other direction, when I get over 20:1 I tend to get BGA. I have heard that increasing CO2 kills of BBA, but in my experience just fixing the ratio has corrected my tank. That...

    Dicrossus and apistos

So his "definition" of clearwater is non-stained blackwater? I thought that everyone assumed clearwater to be more on the neutral side. Thanks Mike.

    Dicrossus and apistos

Mike, Is D. filamentosus actually considered to be a blackwater fish? I got the impression from Romer's atlas that they were not found in blackwater, I think he said it was replaced by D. sp. "Rio Negro". But there is also the long discussion about them migrating with A. elizabethae...

    A. elizabethae with T.candidi in one tank?

I'm by no means one to argue with Mike, but I have a pair of T. candidi and a pair of A. elizabethae in a 20L (gal) and both pair have wigglers. I put them in there about 3 weeks ago as a "holding" tank before I traded them away, of course they thought it was the perfect time to spawn. Water...

    Koslowski book(s) & translation

Be careful!!! Mike's translation keeps getting me into trouble. It seems that the only time the wife wants to talkabout anything is when I am reading it. It is great work.

Aqualog South American Cichlids II vs DATZ South American Dwarf Cichlids

I have to agree with Mike. No contest. I never look at my Aqualog books but I look at the DATZ pub at least once a week.

    My Taeniacara candidi

Your female appears to have a yellow tint. Is she in breeding form (or is it just the lighting)? The reason that I ask, my females all turn a bright lemon yellow when they have free swimming fry. I was hoping that someone else has seen the same thing.

    recap on apisto form Germany

I think that would be my last holiday then, between the wife and the fam, I would be killed if I tried to go to Germany.

    A. Elizabethae - Uaupes

Mike, My elizas ate their eggs every time (~12) until I started to add oak leaves. Now I get a spawn a month outta them.

    baby brine shrimp

I use a coffee filter. Put a little in the filter and run tap over it. I don't think I lose any that way

    L. curviceps & blanched (english) spinach

Oh good, that makes me feel a little better. So there should be no effect on our finned friends?

    southern apisto's

Yes it is the same Apistodave. And his fish are great!!! Most of the time there is more color in orange flash than there is in triple reds. By definition a caca is a triple red if there is any red in his caudle dorsal and anal fins. So any little bit makes him a triple. Nomally orange...

    L. curviceps & blanched (english) spinach

Only thing is, Have y'all seen the news reports on fresh bagged spinach? They are reporting that it is responsible for a bunch of people coming down with E. coli. What will that do to your fish? Will it kill them? Or even make them sick?

    Breeding T. candidi

Most of the time I use frozen. Every now and then the LFS gets some live in and I use them, but they both, frozen and live, seem to work about the same for me.
