I went to Hong Kong and saw a tank of interesting Apistogramma. The shop owner said they are wild-caught fish called "cruzi algodon"
Is the fish is one of those "Pebas"? Can it be A. sp. "Pebas" (Noronha), which is coded A88 in the Datz book? Would anyone be able to confirm the ID of the fish...
I happen to need to actually pronounce the name Apistogramma gibbiceps.
A guideline says gibbiceps = JIB-ih-seps
http://www.columbusfishclub.org/info/tips/latin.php
Another suggests gibb EE seps for the catfish with this name

I wasn’t sure if people would be interested in the dwarf cichlid scenes in Thailand. But perhaps some do. So, I’m writing this article about one of our recent developments this year, which I think is pretty exciting. It’s about a fish competition.
A Competition?
Yeah, you heard it right...
I had a chance to take pictures of one of the prettiest wild cacatuoides I have ever seen. The fish came in a batch labelled as Apistogramma cacatuoides "Rio Nanay" but this particular male was the only one with prominently blue coloration. The other males were mostly yellowish.
The fish was...
About a year ago, I saw 6 weird-looking tiny cichlids in a fish shop and I bought all of them even before I was sure what they were since they were so unusual and adorable. The shop owner later told me the fish was labelled "dimiatus Lezas". Once in my tank, they were amusing little clowns that...
Hope I haven't bored anyone with the gephyra vs. agassizii posts yet. But the fish I posted in my earlier thread months ago have grown considerably. Hopefully, with the most recent picture this time it may be easier to ID the species . Here you are:
And here are some older picture of...
The following three fish came in the same batch. These very pretty fish were labelled as Apistogramma agassizii "Tefe".
Having read Mike Wise's explanation on A. sp. "Tefe" and A. agassizii "Tefe", I think it's obvious they are not the former species, but could they be A. agassizii "Tefe" or...
I've got 6 Apistogramma from an importer. According to her, the fish are contaminants in a Dicrossus maculatus shipment from Brazil. She can't/won't give me the exact location of collection. Yesterday I convinced her to show me the fish and was surprised to find multiple species. Some look...
Two days ago a shop in Bangkok received an interesting pair of Apistogramma from Taiwan. The importer said that it was Apistogramma sp. "Diamond Face" (same fish as "Kelleri"?) but I noticed that he had Apistogramma barlowi in his import list as well. This particular importer is apparently not...
There are many Apistogramma names I'm not sure how to pronounce but "hoignei" is probably one of the most difficult. Although I found out that it was named after Mr. Leo Hoigne, I still have no clue how his family name is pronounced !
Any help is appreciated.
:)
I saw a very beautiful pair of Apistogramma labeled as "Panduro" at a fish shop yesterday. The male, who is very large and seems a bit old, has an extended dorsal fin.
Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera with me. But I found an Internet picture that looks similar to the fish (the...
It was sold to me as a female Apistogramma sp. Miua.
The other fish in this pair was very obviously male.
Is this one really a female or a male? Appreciate any help :)
็Hi all,
An interesting fish showed up at a shop here in Bangkok. The shop owner said the fish came with the name "Peru Flash", or maybe "Peru Flag". He wasn't so sure about the name but he believes it is probably Apistogramma eunotus.
Interestingly, when the males grew older they develop...
Yesterday, some apistogramma under the name "juruensis" arrived at a shop here in Bangkok. Despite my limited knowledge in fish ID, I concluded that they were actually Apistogramma sp. "Black Chin/Schwarzkinn" and bought myself a pair. :)
Some of the males in that batch had orange lips like...
Hi,
I have found another mysterious fish at a shop in Bangkok. There were 4-5 juveniles of these species that came in with a batch of another fish labeled as pertensis (or cf. pertensis, I don't really know).
After some search, they appear to me as somewhat similar to cruzi or moae. But...
The importer told me that a couple of these fish came in with his order of Apistogramma diplotaenia. They remind me of A. uaupesi or Rotkeil but I'm not familiar with that group. Will anyone help me identify the species? Thanks :)
