New color strain of Microgeophagus ramirezi

Pretty fish ! A commercial breeder here has been breeding a basically gold ram that is covered with power blue. He calls his fish blue-gold ram. It's similar to yours but there are probably some subtle differences. Anyway, I personally like yours and I hope you'll keep breeding them :)

Photo sizing - a pet peeve of mine

Hi Mike. I support this policy. Unnecessarily large pictures are definitely annoying and putting me off. However, if I understand pixel measurement correctly, I think 200x200 (pixels) is way, way too small. I do want to see some details of the fish! It would be nice to revise the number a...

    Hello from Thailand

Hi Taj. It's good to see another person from Thailand. I agree with Mike that trifasciata males are quite aggressive. If he harassed the female too much, you might want to get a "breeding box" from a shop. I mean the transparent box that floats in the tank supposedly used for keeping female...

    Wild Ap. sp. Tefe

    Rotpunkt Male refusing to breed?

I think if the fish are really ready to breed, a water change can usually induce them to spawn. But it seems like your aim at the moment is rather to induce the male to be interested in the female, which is more of a compatibility issue. Personally, I think an uninterested male is just a pain...

    Rotpunkt Male refusing to breed?

I have had baenschi males who just won't breed regardless of how willing and ready the females are. I waited for half a year until I realized it was much easier to simply replace the male (luckily, I had many spare males). Then, I got eggs almost immediately. I think it's possible that some...

Please help me ID this Pebas-like fish

I see. If the difference is only the shape caudal spot, it seems quite minor to me. It reminds me of the martini and pantalone case. Anyway, I guess all the tiny things make a difference in Apistogramma.

    Hi, I´m from Argentina.

I'd love to learn more about the populations of wild borellii too. Anyway, your fish are pretty :)

Please help me ID this Pebas-like fish

Thank you, Mike. Can I ask what's the difference between "Pebas" and the fish called "Roca Eterna"? And if perhaps Roca Eterna is another population of Pebas? Anyway, here are some more pictures of a fish from that batch. This one seems to be female.

Please help me ID this Pebas-like fish

I went to Hong Kong and saw a tank of interesting Apistogramma. The shop owner said they are wild-caught fish called "cruzi algodon" Is the fish is one of those "Pebas"? Can it be A. sp. "Pebas" (Noronha), which is coded A88 in the Datz book? Would anyone be able to confirm the ID of the fish...

    Apistogramma SP. (A. megaptera)

Hi Itzik, The fish in the picture above looks suspiciously like an Apistogramma cacatuoides, rather than A. megaptera or any "Breitbinden". Do you have a picture of a male fish?

    N. sp "green speckle" and C. compressiceps

If it's similar to dimidiatus, then housing shouldn't be too difficult. The main focus is probably how to make the fish confident enough not to hide all the time. From my experience, just put a lot of hiding places, and put a good number of fish, the more the better because they will hide less...

    Happiness is ...

Getting fry from two "females" is definitely a pleasant surprise. Congrats! Are your fish the same as those in this link? http://www.aquarium-glaser.de/en/archiv.php?news_id=544
