Sorry Mike, I do not have any females... I raised them from young and all of them turn out to be males. The sources where I got these, do not know what species it belongs to. But the upper tail end of the males ( not all ) do have a lyretail but only the upper part of the tail.
I do not think it's a.borelli opal, looks more like a.steel blue.
Description of it can be found in Romer's book Cichlid Atlas 1 on page 928.
I used to keep this species, but apparently the LFS here in Singapore only sells the male. A very agressive species indeed.
Having 2 or more different species in a tank, be it only males or mix is always at risk by aggression by "strong" species. From my experience the "mix" can only be done if they were all introduce in the same tank when they are at of very young age, but even with that even amongst sibblings they...
I beg to differ, but borelli arent the smallest apisto around. my borelli lived and reach to a maximum size of 3 inch compared to a.diplotaenia and trisfaciata.
Congrat stina on your nijsenni spawn, now your challenge will be raising the frys to adulthood. keep up posted and hopefully the next update we'll see some photos of those juniors.

There are too many fascinating apistos to recommend you and it depends on which apisto family/group you like or are in favour. For me I am always attracted and fascinated by the pertensis group.
With apistos you can never get enough of them. In my country we have this joke that we...
stina,
yup I agree with you. A must have apisto, nice to have and they are just so cute and petite.... I like the way they swim and the way they dart to shoo away intruders...

Juilian, is the fault is that... the image host server doesnt allow direct image viewing. Try upload your files using other image host eg. photobucket & etc....
A breeding apisto in a community tank is always at risk to the frys.
I once had a gibbicep, cacatuoide, and agasiizii spawn in my community tank only the agasiizii frys made, the other two species frys didnt make it. To me it all depend on the parent, if they are mature and bold enough to...
Apistt_ed,
When I got a 1st pair of apisto from a hobbyist in my country, he warned me about the "darkside" of apisto keeping... and true enough I keep expanding and expanding from a tank to 12 tanks now hehehe. Most of them are housed in species tank.
Lucky for me here, I can easily get...
Let me get the ball rolling.
Here is my photo of my community 3ft tank, housing mainly apistos, 4 discus, lampeyes, dwarf gouramis, rasboras, and I cant remember the rest in there now..
Tank is about 6 months old since the last rescape.
