Well I've got the apisto bug now, after caring for some panduro in a smaller tank and breeding them I've become pretty elated with this particular species due to it's outgoing personality and tail slapping tendencies.
I'm thinking about 10 pair to start with in a 125 gallon heavily planted...
I've got 3 panduro's in a 40 gallon tank, one is a very young female, the other is a teenage male, and the one in question is a teenage female.
She's spending most of her time standing on her tail and spinning, when hse's confronted by the male she darts away upside down, I first noticed her...
Well, I've kept blue ram for years now and never seen half the aggression they're showing towards these apisto's from them...I've also never seen them be nearly this aggressive towards one another, or vice versa for the apisto's...lip locking etc...thought it was odd.
To ensure that my apistogramma panduro and altum angelfish are disease free I put a single blue ram from my discus tank in with them...he's literally beating the hell out of the panduro, any time they come within the sponge filter he's made into his home he scares the crap out of em'...

Sure did Farm41...it's even mentioned in Cichlid Atlas by Romer that they can spawn in harder waters...
Eggs hatching don't really have anything to do with gH, it's more of calcium and mag. you can have a ppm of like 800 and they'll still hatch with low levels of those two...
Apistogramma panduro have been documented to breed in hard water conditions, Mike Jacob's said he got them to breed at around 7.5 pH with 500 microsemens gH
I recently got a shipment of apistogramma panduro that are about 40% grown, I'm used to keeping discus and I know that they don't reach their full potential unless you grow them out in bare bottom tanks.
I'm wondering if 1 male and 2 female panduro in a 29 gallon very heavily planted tank...
I'd say it largely depends on their age, after 3 months old they shouldn't have problems in water with that little minerals, but at a younger age I'd recommend starting them off slightly harder to get proper growth...

How about fresa? I understand they stay fairly small compared to most other apisto's...maybe this would work out better in my setup:

Alright, well my planted tank seems to be established well enough.
Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate undetectable.
pH is 7.0 gH is around 230 microsemens
Temperature is at 76 degree's
Going to be keeping pandoru in this tank, any final suggestions on caring for these guys, acclimating...
Why not just acclimate the fish in question to a pH you can handle without having to add chemicals?
You said your pH is only 6.5 after being aged from the tap? That sounds fine to me...
A large amount of black water biotypes are nothing but dead tree roots, mud and leaves...
You need to decide on a species of apistogramma and go from there, rather then trying to create a biotype and then find an apisto to suit it...
I've been told that with apisto's the temperature is what determines sex ratios, 76 gives fairly even, below gives more females above gives more males...
I'm unsure if this is true for kribs or not, but thought I"d mention it.
Understood 2la, I guess I should've been more specific in my original question and asked if the plants ammonium uptake would result in the nitrite's declining because of less bacteria being converted...if that makes sense...
Of course I could have not been so damn impatient and just found out...
Hrm, maybe I'm getting them mixed up with another fish then, thought their intestines couldn't digest em'...which didn't make much sense to me...which is why I couldn't come ot my own conclusion...which is why I asked the question hehe...
Guess I better get a culture started for my panduro :)
