I might start a 20g long just for a couple of dorsigera. Would I be ok stocking it with 4 or 5 dorsigera? As far as algae is concerned, should I get otos or a bn plec? It will be a planted tank.
Would it really be ok to add 2 more L. dorsigera? I'm worried that the smaller fish would have more competition from the dorsigera during feeding time, particularly when I feed frozen (the dorsigera I have now doesn't seem to go for flakes. Also, is there any chance of the dorsigera breeding if...
I'm wondering if I can get more cichlids for my 40g breeder. I'm thinking of a trio of apistos, a couple of bolivian rams, or maybe even 2 more Laetacara dorsigera.
My current stock list:
1 Laetacara dorsigera
4 Upside-down catfish
6 White cloud mountain minnows
5 Head-and-tail light...
Is a 40 breeder big enough for a pair of L. dorsigera to breed in without them harming the other fish? Right now, I have in there:
1 Laetacara dorsigera (probably female)
4 Upside-down catfish
7 White cloud mountain minnows
5 Head-and-tail light tetras
3 Honey gouramis
2 SAE's
2 Otos...
I'm planning to start a second 20g long as a bare-bottom breeding tank. Right now, I'm thinking a pair of German Blue Rams or Laetacara Dorsigera, with a BN plec to clean up the algae.
What other dwarf cichlids would you recommend besides apistos?
Would they do ok in a bare-bottom tank...
I don't think the fish is ill, just that the Maracyn might somehow have caused her to lose her usual colors.
So my only course of action now is to introduce food like Cyclops, as a previous poster mentioned? How big is frozen cyclops? Can I use frozen krill instead or would those be too big...
There are two L. dorsigera in the video. The contrast in their colors should be stunning. If the colors on the male are normal, and the colors on the female are different.. then logically, how can the colors on the female be normal?
I did a treatment of both Maracyn and Maracyn Two for 7 days. The female used to look just like the male, but now not even the horizontal black stripe is showing. Surely that's not normal?
Sorry, but I don't see how you can say the female's colors are normal. Originally, the female's colors were darker and much more intense. That might've been due to stress while she was at the LFS, but for a long time she looked just like the male does now.
However, right after 5 days of...
In September, I did a 7-day Maracyn 1/2 treatment of a pair of Laetacara dorsigera for what I believed to be mild popeye. I used a bunch of live plants to control the ammonia levels, as well as an AC 30 filter in the 10 gallon hospital tank for water circulation.
After 5 days of treatment...
