Just looking for ideas to keep with my apistos, but I think dithers to keep with other dwarf cichlids would be interesting as well. I'll throw out a couple of my favorites:
cardinal tetra
ember tetra
I have a heavily planted 75 gallon tank currently housing a pair of apistogramma baenschi and 10 cardinal tetras. I'm thinking of adding a school of corydoras pygmaeus (the dwarf cory). The apistos will occasionally dart at the tetras, but have done no damage in the months they've been...
I was wondering if any apisto people will be there (none of the lectures are on apistos or dwarf cichlids). It won't be worth the drive for me, if there aren't a few apistos or dwarf cichlids there. Since Ohio is hard water country I'm thinking it may be mostly rift lake african cichlids.
I recently bought 2 apisto nijsseni. One is obviously a female. The other, I'm not sure about. Tell me if you think it is male or female. Your thoughts are appreciated. All 3 photos are of the same fish.
Sorry for the poor picture quality. It is as well as I could do with my...
So I'm going on vacation and I'll be gone for 6 days. I can't find anyone to feed my free swimming apisto baenschi fry (I just spotted them 2 days ago). I've thought of 2 options.
1. Leave them in the tank with parents and hope they find some food. The tank is planted with a dirt/gravel...
I wanted to post a quick thanks and salute to the site, the moderators, and the regular posters.
I have found no place on the internet with such excellent and timely information. Newbies are treated with grace and the overall tone of the forum is exceptionally friendly and helpful...
I have a pair of nannacara anomala that have spawned multiple times for me. I have moved them to several different tanks with hard to soft water. They have had a variety of other fish in the tank with them including dithers, other dwarf cichlids, and no other fish. I have kept the male with...
Pelvicachromis Taeniatus 'Lobe' pair
Since I got them at the ACA the pair has spawned twice for me in hard cincinnati tap water. First time eggs didn't hatch or were eaten. Second time the free swimmers were eaten by other fish in the tank.
I will trade for a pair of apistogramma...
I have lost half the cardinals tetras and 2 or 5 otocinclus in my QT. The otos have a distended belly, but they don't show any other sign of disease. They just die. The water parameters are fine (no ammonia or nitrite, minimal nitrate, TDS about 200).
So what to do next?
I won't be adding...
My pelvicachromis taeniatus 'lobe' have only 1 or 2 free swimming fry right now. I witnessed the fry swimming into the mother's mouth several times. Is this a common behavior?
My p. taeniatus 'moliwe' have bred much more for me, but I have not noticed them taking fry into their mouth.
I am cycling a 30 gallon tank with some non-apisto fish. One of the 4 fish developed ich. I treated it and the ich has not reappeared for a week. I started this tank to house apistos and hopefully have them breed. Assuming the water parameters are fine and there are no more signs of disease...
My RO unit is now installed and producing very soft water.
I want to keep and breed a variety of apistos. I currently have a. cacatuoides. I'd love to get some agassizi, panduro, borelli. I have 4 x 30 gallon tanks with tank dividers splitting each tank in half, plus an 80 gallon tank...
I have a heavily planted 75 gallon high tech tank.
