Well, the fish even show the typical red edges in the caudal, which I've never seen in the cruzi subcomplex. So, I totally agree with Frank.
And if I look at my A.viejita, the body shape is absolutely not an adequate characteristic. Usually it is said that viejita is more slender and macmasteri...
Hi,
The holotype is just ONE specimen. From the type series, that are all specimen examined for the description, one specimen is selected to be the holotype, the others are the paratypes. The holotype defines the species, e.g. if there are more than one species in the type series.
The catch...
Thank you :-)
Yes, it has been a bit of work, because I tried to be as precisely as possible. Sometimes not easy. But I had fun doing this.
And do not mix up type locality with catching location or distribution area, as Mike said, sometimes this could be something very different.
Well, Mike...
Hi,
Here is a pair, I got from Uwe Römer.
Caught close to the location where TomC caught the "Pantoja" form, which is obviously the same.

Rolo
Hi,
Gerald, no we didn't sent it to Sven Kullander.... we should have done, because our "work" received him anyway. ;-)
I got an eMail from him! He wondered, that even scientists forwarded our document to him, but he appreciated our joke.
Ha, that's great! :-)
So, don't worry, if you were...
What do you mean, the authors doesn't exist??? You just have to translate the names. Volquete (span. ) = Kipper (german)
And no, honestly the abstract seems not really to be plausible. Have a closer look. E.g. the list of misidentifications go back until 1947, but A.viejita was described in...
Hi all,
I hope you had a nice April Fools' Day? ;-)
Of course, this paper is a fake, made by Frank_H and me!
Thanks for support to Mike Wise, Mark Breeze and TomC ;-)
Did you enjoy it?
best regards,
Rolo
Gerald, obviously it IS a redescription. And of course, the original description of A. viejita is pretty bad, which is one of the reasons, why so many people misidentified it. For years it was not clear, which fish it is. Due to the insufficient diagnostic characteristics in Kullander 1979 there...
Hi,
Some interesting scientific news about the old problem with A. macmasteri and A. viejita.
Unfortunately I guess it takes 30 years again to find its way into peoples minds. ;-)
Taxonomical revision of two colombian species of Apistogramma (Teleostei: Perciformes) with redescription of...
Does anyone have the new description of A. kullanderi, Varella & Sabaj Perez, 2014 published in Ichtyological Explorations of Freshwater?
I guess it must be the formerly known A. sp. "Gigas"
Regards,
Rolo
This is not a new species, it's A. sp. "Kelleri / Diamond Face"
As I know, you took the wrong photo and you mean the "other" fish, described in this thread: http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/threads/collecting.18659/#post-90103
And that's neither a new species, that's just a new colour morph of...
A. cf. Ortegai (Papagei) is wrong, because the holotype shows a Papagei. So this form is identical with A. ortegai and you shouldn't use the "cf." here.
Another thing is, that in the rules of nomenclature only the genus names are written with capital letters, the species names are written with...
