How aggressive is Uaru Ampiacanthoides? Can it be in the same tank with tetras, and dwarf ciclids such as bolivians?

Hey guys,
I just set up my 29 gallon tank. I used 35 lbs of sand, which gave on average a 2 inch thick level of substrate. Is this to thick? Should I take some out so it is around an inch? I don't want toxic air pockets.
Also, I have about 7 ciclid caves like these...
