Ok well they did the same thing last night at the same time! They were there until the lights go off! It's so wierd. I think they are becoming a pair because today after school, now they are swimming around, the male in such bright colors from his already stunning blue, and they periodically...
Nothing. I thought they might have babies there too but nope. They aren't doing it anymore but I will see, maybe they only do it at night. I do 1-2 gallon water changes a day on their tank.
Ok, now another weird thing. :D Ok, so as far as I have seen, there is no bullying going on. The female has a few little tears in her anal and tail fin but definately nothing to worry about. So I first saw this around 8:20pm. The male and female were sitting on the bottom of the tank, motionless...
Success! I put the female back in and they are swimming like best friends. It has only been 14 hours but she is showing great colors and is not picking on the male at all. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Ok, so NOW.... I saw my male this morning and his fins look wonderful. BUT, at certain times with the light, when his body is mostly white, and pretty much see through, I can see the spine, there is a red blob about 3/4 of the way down his spine, like a blood vessel popped or something. Anyone...
I do one gallon water changes on their tank anyway. But, I was thinking about taking 1 filter pad from their existing tank and putting it in the other to make it better. I will probably do that soon, she just won't leave the poor guy alone and he has another tear on his anal fin today. :( Maybe...
Well, the breeder said he was able to raise some of the hatchlings, so they must have been fertile. I think I will wait until Wednesday (have them for a week then) and if she is still bugging the male, I will remove her for a bit and try again. The breeder suggested that a few days ago.
Well so far I have hear a few different opinions on the bullying. I guess breeding is one. The other is that she is staking out her territory (but the whole tank?). For either of these situations, how long do I let it go on? The female has colored up nicely with some pretty blues and greens, so...
Really? I certainly hope so! The female chases the male around and kind of terrorizes him if she wants to breed? I would think that would be the male. Even so, it is not all the time, only when she sees him enjoying him I guess!
He seems more interested in his reflection than anything else. I...
Ok, hopefully that is the case. Here are two videos of what she is doing to him. The videos are kind of dark, and my camera does not allow you to zoom after you start recording so they are not the greatest.

They are so cute! One thing I am worried about is this: the breeder said he sold me a male and a female, a mated pair that already bred. Not a problem, one is clearly a male, and the other certainly looks like a female, much smaller, less color, a few spots in her light black spot. The only...
Ok, wonderful to hear. I thought I had missed out on some huge discovery in acclimating fish! I recieved them today, put them in a different bag, and they are floating now. The breeder told me not to use the same bag because he uses special bags that allow oxygen and CO2 to pass through so when...
Ok, I am a bit confused, because here is what the breeder said:
If your water has a pH of approx. 7.6 then the hardness will be ok too! This is PERFECT! When you get them take them out of the water they are in and put them in a hard container of some sort and let them settle down. As long...
Ok, good to hear a different opinion. I, personally, will acclimate them, I always do and have lost no fish during or after acclimation. But, I am happy to hear a bit of a pH swing will not affect my fish to a huge degree. Thanks so much!
I have a quick question for you all. Do you think that my Rams will be able to withstand a little pH swing during water changes? I have done a few water changes on this tank in the last couple days, and the pH went from 7.7ish down to 7.54ish and then slowly rose throughout the day back to...
