I'm looking for a very specific fish to live and breed in my 20 gallon high. The tank is currently blackwater and i would prefer to keep it that way, so I am looking for a softwater cichlid that gets no bigger than 5-ish cm and would happily live as a pair or trio in a 20. It doesn't have to be...
If my apisto would be happier in a group i have other tanks i could use as grow out, but if he is fine alone then I wouldn't go out of my way to breed them.
Hi I have recently upgraded my tank to a 250l which has dwarf pencilfish and 1 panduro, and I was thinking about getting some more apistos.
Do these apistos prefer to live in a group or alone? I'm completely happy to just have one if that's best for the fish
i will only be having a single male and my school of pencilfish, im not willing to take the risk of finding a female that will pair when i dont have a plan for any rejected females.
I went down today but they had sold out of my top choices, however they had a few male A. Panduro left and after finding out they were f1 i couldn't resist. I'll post pictures once he is settled, very pretty little fish only about an inch long right now.
I've just received an stocklist from my lfs, i'll list the current stock below:
apistogramma ortegai (one female left)
apistogramma hongsloi
apistogramma macmasteri
apistogramma agassizii - super red and double red
apistogramma baenschi
apistogramma panduro
apistogramma diplotaenia

It's a 33 gallon/130litre, 85x37cm floor space. With dwarf pencilfish and ember tetras, no bottom dwellers although I have amano shrimp but they can be easily moved. Water is soft, it's a blackwater tank. What other species would work? as I said agassizii are easiest to get but my lfs...
It's not going to be a breeding tank, but nor is it strictly a display tank. I'm happy to scape in a way that prevents line of sight and I already have leaf litter alder cones ect. I'd like a pair of trio of fish that will act as a centrepiece for the tank
I have a 20 gallon currently empty, aside from some shrimp and snails, that can be used as grow out and my lfs has expressed interest in taking some to sell
they are dwarf pencilfish (nannostomus marginatus), only get about an inch long and are also south american. the tank is heavily planted, with sticks and dragonstone that forms caves that i imagine the apistos would like. I cant find much info online about a.agassizii and whether they form...
Ive got a 130l tank, currently housing, dwarf pencilfish and ember tetra, i want to add a pair or trio of Apistos leaning towards agassizii although im very open to other suggestions. Would the Agassizii get along with the other fish and what is the likelihood that they will breed in a community...
