    Help with Apistogramma Borelli breeding

Honestly, for just keeping Borelli, and not spawning, hard water is fine, they are the most hard water favorable of all Apistos (Seen ones that were raised in 8.0 PH), though I have very little of a clue about spawning in those water conditions.

    Cichlids and Polypterids

So I have scrapped the cichlid idea, mostly due to shifting priorities (I once again have contracted trout mania : so, if I get anything else, Giant Danios!) but also due to practicality. I've been trying to work out details and also have been reconsidering species, mostly considering either a...

    Cichlids and Polypterids

Damn, I had heard about people keeping kribs with bichirs, but they probably just didn't have fully grown ones. Im planning to set up a 40 Gallon breeder and using that as a Bichir tank, (mother won't let me grab anything bigger, and the floor plan should be big enough for bichir (its ~45cm *...

    Cichlids and Polypterids

So I have been considering setting up a Polypterid tank, getting back into the hobby and all that, and I was wondering, do you guy's know any good cichlids to cohabitate with the smaller bichir, obviously most apistogramma's will constitute an easy snack to a full grown Delhezi, but I am curious...

    Mixing Borellii phenotypes.

Now, a lot of what i am thinking about also relates to an idea I have had for a while, basically setting up a 40 gallon tank with a dwarf cichlid "colony", of sorts, similar to the one presented in This thread .

    Mixing Borellii phenotypes.

Well I mostly just hear about the inbreeding problem from people like you, and from experience, the fish are decently hardy, but definitely could do with more genetic diversity.

    Mixing Borellii phenotypes.

Well, Ignoring the obvious problem, do you think that mixing a different population/subspecies would result in viable, and genetically healthy offspring? I ask this question knowing that it is technically a form of hybridization. But if it is a hybrid, would it still be phenotypically normal...

    Mixing Borellii phenotypes.

So I have been looking at a website that sells Dwarf Cichlids, and they actually recently have stocked a subvariety of A. Borellii from the Pantanal/Paraguay River these fish have a markedly different phenotype to the Opal variety, and, knowing that the Opal variety often has challenges with...

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!

I'm starting to think that my API Master Test kit might just be a little faulty... I did the High Range PH test and it put out 8.8. Which my water... Definitley is not...

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!

Well it ran for just under a year before the move, so my guess is that moving everything was what killed the bacteria.

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!

While I have been thinking about the whole "no beneficial bacteria" thing, and it probably is a factor. but i do really think that it is mainly the water, since I tested the tap and it was very green (because of the Ammonia). In Pennsylvania (where I live) the water seems to all be alkaline, so...

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!

So I have recently moved, and have re-setup my 10g tank, now with just the male because the female tragically died as a consequence of the moving process (Basically i had to move them and their tank to my mom's school, where they ended up being stressed out by the kids). And now my male has been...

    New To Breeding, advice wanted.

god, thats really quite short, I've had my apistos since june, they were pretty small then (pre adults), but they are domestic A. Borellii Sp. Opal, so are definitely rather inbred. I better start making plans to get a wild caught pair eventually, just to breed more vivacious fish.

    New To Breeding, advice wanted.

I've decided to actually just make a community tank, its actually doing really good rn, But i do have a question I really want to breed my borellii at some point, but what is an average lifespan for them, I don't want to have my apistogramma's die on me before im ready to breed them.

    Color Ehancer for Apistogramma

I second Mike's statement, if it it is hormone based it likely would mess with the growth and health of the fish, meanwhile a soley nutrient based mixture is unlikle to do harm. I have never raised fry, but this is more just common sense.

    New To Breeding, advice wanted.

I have a pair of A.Borellii I intend to breed soon, however I am unsure of the way the process works and I do have a few personal limitations. I only have frozen BBS I will have to go for a short vacation during winter break (not my choice but I can't do anything about it) I do not currently...

    Hillstream Loaches And Breeding

    1. If one cannot provide optimal condtions, than it makes sense to do a best, as MacZ pointed out, many people do not care enough about the fish, and i would say this forum is really quite a hotspot of responsible fishkeeping. Sub-Optimal care is perfered to the complete lack of a s*** some...

    Hillstream Loaches And Breeding

While I do not necessarily disagree with your statement I would like to offer a counterargument, mostly for the sake of it but I do also disagree with a few of your conclusions. One can argue that we have in fact done the animal a favor even if providing a diminished lifespan and health, Fish in...
