I'm currently keeping them at 24c and was wondering if they would prefer a little cooler or if there's a recommended temperature to get a good ration of male & female offspring?
Let me start by saying I have 1m/3f Borellii & 2 coral red pencil fish (was 6 but 2 pair up and chased the rest to death wtf.. these were supposed to be peaceful dithers).
Anyway I hear "You could easily fit 3 pairs of apistos in a tank that size" a lot (and I mean a lot), Reddit, LFS's, fellow...
This is my AquaOne Oak 145 community-ish apisto tank.
The temperature hovers between 24.5-25.6c. I have started sofening the water by 10L RO + 4L Tap water (80PPM TDS 6GH/<1KH) as that's the easiest way to fill the buckets.
Stocking is;
-1M/5F apistogramma borellii
-5 coral red pencil fish...
Last time I brought apistos I got stiched up with different apistos (thanks for the ID last time @CRD ). I took them back and got 1M/3F from one Maidenhead and another 2F from a different Maidenhead to get a nice harem going.
They're all about the same size so I imagine they were new arrivals...
Ended up getting a mixed batch of apistos from my LFS that I ended up taking back. I know it's a long shot but wondering if there are any breeders near me?
I seen these in a LFS and just had to purchase them. 1 male, 3 females, I could of purchased more females but thought that would of been pushing it for my 150L.
Anyway just wanted to know is this a hybrid/what colour morph is the male? I would also like to know are the females supposed to look...
