    Apistogramma Cacatuoides Scale Lesion

For what it’s worth My Borelli had the exact same infection. It went away after about a week. Based on Mac’s advice I had also added some IAL. Now I continue to do so regardless. It turns out, my Ottos absolutely love the IAL. They munch on it endlessly. I now have a new food source for them.

Treating a white spot on an apistogramma tail

So a quick update. after doing the water changes etc. the white spot disappeared. Moreover I believe I found the cause. The females were chasing him everywhere, and nipping him right at the spot the injury had occurred . I don’t have a third tank to put him in (the second one has his...

Treating a white spot on an apistogramma tail

Thanks. I have hard water and relatively high nitrates. That is why I go with pure RODI. As for siphoning the substrate, I don’t actually go into it. I wave a scraper just above the substrate and vacuum out any debris raised. I’ll do thing you suggested and hope the little guy gets better.

Treating a white spot on an apistogramma tail

Tanks for your help. Your input is most welcome. I’ll do couple of larger water changes over the next week, in addition to the daily ones. I use RODI water, though my DI resin is in desperate need of change, which I’ll do today. I feed a variety of foods including hakkari micro pellets...

Treating a white spot on an apistogramma tail

Thanks for the quick response @MacZ. I do daily 7% water changes. I use RODI water and mineralize with Seachem equilibrium to a GH of 5. No KH. My Ph is at 6.4 - set by Tropica aqua soil. My nitrates are between 10-20. TDS below 200. Keep the temp at 25C - 77F. Nothing has changed in the...

Treating a white spot on an apistogramma tail

One of my male Apisto opals has developed a 1/8" or 2mm white spot on its tail. I suspect it is either fungus or bacterial infection. I can see his scales beneath the white, so there doesn’t seem to be any physical injury or exposed flesh. Any suggestions on what I can do? Behaviourally he...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

That makes sense. I'll keep an eye out for the fry. Hopefully, the eggs will hatch this time, unlike in the fry holder.

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

Brief update. The brotherly love thing did not last. The two females have staked their territories close to the two caves I put at the opposite ends of the tank. They seem to stick to their cave area, and do not engage each other. One of the females colored up, and started being aggressive...

Can you safely mix nijenssi and elizabethae ?

You identified my main dilemma. I am consolidating everything into a tank, and a holdup is that I can't decide on what to use as a substrate. I love the way you can plant in it. Also, aqua Soil is not actually inert. It is fired clay, and it has high CEC. That means it will hold fertilizers...

Can you safely mix nijenssi and elizabethae ?

I did not realize Eleocharis is a hard water plant as well. I tried to grow the mini variety, but it just never multiplies for me (doesn't die either, just stays as planted). Maybe this explains it.

Can you safely mix nijenssi and elizabethae ?

I assume Chirion wrgb2 means Chihiros WRGB2. If so, they are supposed to be quire good. I have the older rgb version. One of those at 16" depth creates 40 PAR, which is medium light. Perfect for me since I found high lights to be too much work - stem plants grow like crazy and require...

When switch from live brine shrimp nauplii to other food for fry?

My borelli took to Hikari almost from the start. Also tried nutra fin, but they never ate that. Good luck.

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out. Also, I do plan on moving them to the 4ft tank when that is set up in a couple of months. Work has been so busy that the set up has been very slow. In the meantime, the brothers are inseparable so far. They do not stray more...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

A brief day-one update. They seem to be happy in their new tank. Much to my surprise, they have been hanging out together (see if you can locate the third one) Hint: She is right above the left male's head. The back of this tank is adjacent to my desk. I now have multiple apistos gathering...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

A brief update. I finally moved the fry over to my 23 Gallon tank. The only fish in there are 5 corys and a few ottos. There were also couple of honey gouramis but I moved those to the main 40g tank. My hope is that if they lay eggs, it will give them a chance to grow out. Here is a grainy...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

Thanks for this. I always welcome people's experiences and usually learn something new from them. I'll see whether Ocean Nutrition is available in Canada and if so, I'll give it a try. I also worry about what to do in the 24-48 hours it takes for BBS to hatch. I have been culturing...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

That's awesome abut your tanks. The babies are cute. I find the adults irresistible with their wiggling and the way they "dance" together - I have 10 adults in the tank. The babies are even cuter. I am guessing all the BBS I have been feeding has helped sustain them. I also seriously...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

An update. Totally unrelated to the opals but I was so thrilled I wanted to share - my panda cories had babies. I just saw three 1/2" fry swimming through the bottom. Wow. I am speechless. This was supposed to be a showcase tank for my underwater plants with the fish added just to keep it...

Apisto Borreli Opal had fry. What do I do?

Thanks for the offer - that is very kind of you. Even if it was permissible (and I don't think it is w/o an import/export license), it'd never make it in the winter weather up here. Even on-line stores stop live shipment, except through overnight delivery, which is prohibitive for plants. I'll...
