I have 2 German Rams (initially bought as a pair, but turns out to be both female!) who get on great and swim around together.
Also have a Male Apisto, and male Fire Red Agasizzi.
Can I add compatibility wise, an Electric Blue ram to the mix, if also female? Will she likely form a trio with the...
Thanks Darrel - appreciate that!
Yes I've got almond leaves on way, and the planted tank is still quite young, so lots to grow out!
Since the post I've got some more bogwood and added Java Moss too , so should have a LOT of closed spaces, so I think things will go well ...... thanks again for...
Thanks - yeah I've seem them swim 'above' the current bogwood line, so was just wondering whether it's worth 'layering' any more on top for additional 'hideouts' and crevices/caves etc?
Can I ask for your opinion on my setup above please Mike?
This is my current tank layout and would hugely welcome feedback or suggestions if things need changing? (as mentioned no breeding pairs. so purely a community tank to display and reduce territory!)

ON average for German Rams/ Apisto's, what do people find is the optimal or used environment height?
I currently have a 1 metre length tank with about 5 bits of 'good' bogwood, roughly 4inches high - each has 'cave' like or bridging areas with plenty of plants around.
Was thinking about...
Thanks guys - I truly appreciate your words --- I ended up with 2 female German RAMS, an apisto Cockatoo male, and male (young/small) agassizi fire red.
There's about 5 pieces of decent sized bogwood with nooks and caves, lots of java fern and cover - and all seems good .... the agassizi has...
Thanks Ade - yes in Surrey.
The Rams are only 24hours in my tank, and the 'paler' ram has started to get his/her colours further since settling in and feeding frozen foods .... some black is coming up, still very confusing in 'the look' --- will post some more pics in 2-3 days and see if...
Thanks buddy - yeah the male definitely had more black in the store, and it's confusing as it's all gone currently, including his black spot on body .... not like it's there but feint at the moment! Yet his dorsal 2/3rd fin IS longer .... will hold on a week and see maybe!
Would there be an...
Should say the dominant male was strutting his stuff - is it possible they lose their black spot etc, and it returns? As said, I'm sure he was 'blacker' in the shop!!
Hi guys
Bought 2 German rams yesterday - there were 4 in the tank, and it appeared (to both myself and LFS worker) that there were 2 males and 2 females .... one male was definitely the dominant one, and the way he was swimming looked like he had paired up with one female, so I went for the...
Totally get that point, think it was just to have them in their 'natural' environment or paired characteristics, if it happens it happens, just not setup as a 'breeding tank' I guess :-)
Hi all
OK, have a 1metrre length tank and have created '2 ends' with bogwood and java fern connected to make some hideouts/caves etc, with some further bog wood with java as a central tank 'line of sight block'
I'm looking to house a Bolivian Ram pair and a single male Apistogramma - first off...
Thanks appreciate your response --- from a fry perspective I wouldn't be 'ideally' looking to breed, so if they want some/it happened in a safe way then fair enough!
Excellent thanks Mike, appreciate your input.
As we all do, before buying, I've been looking closer today and 'may' be further swayed towards Rams of some nature. Can you enlighten me (pushing it on the same thread!!) on them and their best 'groupings' in such a tank? By the looks of it maybe...
