Hi Julie,
I was thinking that you are going to get a 36(length)x18(width) inches tank which I think will be better if you put in with the wall at the back.
Anyway, 24 x 24 inches is also ok.
The height doesn't really matter for Apisto.
By the way, remember to quarantine your new fish before...
Hi Julie,
I will share some information briefly as I am not an expert in Apistogramma fish.
I guess you need to provide more information about your choices before the members here can give more specific answers. Otherwise, there are too much things to discuss here.
1)What kind of tank that you...
Hi Siggi,
Yes, metal will be better than wood as wood will get warp when it comes in contact with water.
But for metal, make sure that "the joints" are strong.
Ensure that the screws or welding for the joints are strong.
If the welding are not properly done, it may weaken the joints.
As for...
Welcome Rod!
I guess I'm a bit late to write here.
I agree with Ade205 that keeping fish is very addictive but looking at fish is very therapeutic and relaxing.
By the way, I just want to share some useful information for fish keeping though I'm not an expert in this.
Firstly, you might want...
Nice fish and tank!
I've some suggestions for the container that you used to isolate/keep your Adoketa.
You might want to drill bigger holes on the container especially at the bottom side to allow more water to flow through it. But you have to use a very low power drill so that it won't...
Here are some good articles and videos on DIY aquarium stands/supports:

Wow! in my opinion, the total weight of about 1600 kg(tank, water, hardscape, etc) is extremely heavy and your table won't be able to support it.
You need a very solid, stable and even surface table/support.
In my opinion, the middle part will sink and give way if there are no legs support in...
I'm using Dr Bassleer Bio-fish Regular "M" size.
https://www.bassleer.com/biofish-food-regular/
The food will sink to the bottom and is suitable for Apistogramma & Corydoras.
The "M" size is suitable for small fish especially your Cardinal Tetras.
The food is also not too hard(I think) and...
Sorry, one correction.
I used the wrong term for the "decomposing bacteria". My explanation for the first paragraph may not be accurate.
Here are some info about bacteria:

Yes, Gerald is right to say that growing your own live food can ensure parasite-free live food.
But I'm just afraid that the left over live food can sometimes foul your tank. And since our tank is a closed system, it might be difficult to ensure that the water stay clean or free from too much...
Hi Chris D'Arminio,
If you change and maintain your tank water frequently, then I don't think it's due to the water problem.
I suspect that it could be due to parasites infection since you mentioned that you feed it with live food.
I lost many of my apistogrammas and blue rams to parasites...
Hi Elisabetta,
I noticed that you have Hyphessobrycon megalopterus (Black phantom tetra), do they nip your Borelli fins? Some tetras like to nip at the fins of Borelli. Even the Neon Tetra will nip their fins.
You also mentioned that you have internal worms problems that killed your 3...
Hi Roy,
I think there are some information from this forum:
http://www.fishlore.com/aquariumfishforum/threads/german-blue-rams-bolivian-rams-apistogramma-angazzi.134991/
I think most problems arosed during their breeding time.
Hi Roy,
What is your tank size?
I think you need to have at least 90cm(3ft) length (mininum) if you want them to be comfortable.
But I have no experience with Bolivian Ram.
Bolivian Ram is bigger than German Blue Ram.
Since both are cichlid, they will always get into fight.
There is another group of fish tht is also interesting is Central America cichlids.
The Electric Blue Dempsey from Central America is beautiful but it will grow too big for your tank and it will become aggressive when it grows big.
Btw, African cichlids is the most aggresive of all.
The second...
Some additional info:
You might want to get fish with these 3 different colours - blue, red and yellow to make your tank more colourful. And add some green plants.
But among the 3 colours, blue colour fish is the most unique and they are more rare.
As for the plants, most people will usually...
Hi Roy,
There are many fish that you can consider:
1)African Cichlids
2)South American Cichlids
3)Asian fish
But considering your tank size (36gallon) and with your Danios, I think South American + some Asian fish will be more suitable.
African cichlids will require bigger tank unless you...
Thanks Fikret.
The Electric Blue Jack Dempsey and the Malawi Demasoni were there just temporarily. Just for temporarily viewing pleasure with different colours combination of fish.
Btw, I'd moved them to my African cichlids tank as they are more aggressive than the South American cichlids.
I...
The picture above are some of my fish.
The Demasoni was there only for temporarily as she belongs to the African continent which requires different water condition and she is too aggresive for South American fish.
