    Gold tetra conundrum

OK, so I haave two different species of tetra, both purchased as gold tetras some time ago. I currently have two fry from one of the species (which of course are silver coloured!). I'm trying to establish the species that I have. I think one is H. rodwayi, but I don't know what the other is...

    Breeding Paracheirodon simulans

Hi, does anyone know of anyone breeding P. simulans? I have just spawned mine so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Breeding Paracheirodon simulans

Just wondering if anyone has achieved this or knows anyone that has as I'm attempting it.

    Wild A. barlowi freeswimming

It's taken a year or so and various mouthbroodings, but this is the first time I've seen her with freeswimming fry! Not great videos, but a proud moment!

    Nannostomus rubrocaudatus

So I bought some red pencilfish which, on closer inspection (and ID advice from Tom) are N. rubrocaudatus. I have them in my planted tank so will see how they go on. Had them about a week and they seem to be getting on well so far. Lovely fish. Hope I get them to breed.

    Pyrrhulina?

Hi, I picked these up today. Not the best pics but can anyone ID them please? They cme in as splash tetras which they clearly aren't. Think they're some kind of Pyrrhulina, but don't have spots like spilosa. Bit of a bluish sheen on top and very red fins.

    5 foot biotopish!

So decided to dismantle my 5 foot tank and redo it all with my new hood that I built with a viewing window. It had emergent Hydrocotyle leucocephala all around the ledges but this was recently destroyed by aphids! It also had an old undergravel filter at one end and gravel on top so I decided...

    Copella species

Hi, I posted some pics of these a while back with a question about ID. The males are clearly matured now and the first batch of fry are at around the same size as the adults were when I bought them. Any advance on an identification?

    TDS vs hardness

Hi all, I've not studied chemistry for some time and have not a great knowledge of TDS. How does TDS compare as an indicator of suitable water vs the hardness of the water. I have just invested in a TDS meter today and have tapwater with a TDS of 60ppm, but the water in my tanks was around...

Copella and A. panduro territorial dispute

So my male Copella has come into breeding condition, lost his stripey background colour and is displaying at everything. He's even having some fantastic-looking displaying sessions over territroy with the A. panduro pair. Here's a video (not very good quality due to low light levels) of him...

    Apisto books

Hi (this is probably aimed at Mike), I know the question has probably been asked a million times, but which books are best and are they available on ebay? Also, how easy is it to get hold of journal articles describing each species? I've seen links to a few, but not always able to access as I...

    A. panduro breeding

Well, here are a few shots of my A. panduro pair (I hope!) and their young. The female has just brought them out today as free-swimmers, although she's been moving them for a few days now. Enjoy.

Hi, I'm based just south of Manchester and am looking to get hold of a female A. nijsseni.

    A. panduro 184?

Helloe, hello. Whilst on the topic of A. panduro vs A. nijsseni I have just noticed that my A. panduro male (yes, I now have an actual A. panduro male!) appears to have some vertical stripes on his caudal. He's only young yet and I only noticed these on the photographs until I looked today...

    A. panduro/A. nijsseni hybrid fry

So, my A. panduro female and A. nijsseni male recently bred (I was originally sold them as a pair of young A. panduro. At least one fry survived, but not sure if any more have and not sure how it will go on as it's being chased a lot by the female at the moment as I got her a nice male A...

    A nice surprise!

I came home from work today to find a nice surprise! I hadn't even noticed any changes in behaviour from this female aggie! Then I noticed that my largest male A. barlowi appears to be still chasing other fish, but with a rather wide mouth that he is keeping clamped shut! Is he...

    Crenuchus spilurus

Hi, has anyone on here bred these? I think I've read about a couple of people trying to (I think one was Mike for some reason but I could be wrong), or intending to try. Just wondering if anyone has had any success and under what conditions and with what, if any tank mates?

    A. panduro second spawning?

My female A. panduro has fry at approx 3.5 weeks of age. The last couple of days she has been returning to the leaf "cave" in which she first layed. The young from the first brood have spread out randommly and only seen 2-3 today (there were around 9 a few days ago!), but then there is a lot...

    A. cacatuoides breeding

Hi, well my A. cacatuoides had been bright yellow and retreating into her cave for about a week and yesterday she came out with her group of free-swimmers. I love the mottled pattern on cac fry and also the way they hit the deck and freeze when she disappears and blend right in. Here are a few...
