It will probably take 2-3 days until hatching starts.. and approx. 7-10 days until free swimming.. but females often (not always) prefer to change and move into another cave during this period... so you may see some cool actions if this is the case.. ( her preparing cave/hidingplace no2.. and...
Hi !!
My experience is female Apistos only "dig" sand after spawning, not before or during ..so I`d say fertilization has already been completed.. ( often the female can be seen having a slimmer stomach/bellly after spawning..)
That also probably explains the behaviour of the male.. "His 1st job...
I would check and ask with your store if possible.. You ought to be able to return the one/s you don`t want to keep..
Maybe they can order a matching fish for the one you want .. from a wholesaler or breeder..??
Females of any Apisto are often harder to get than males !!!
I hope you can solve...
Hi..
I`ve never kept them with Apistos, but a friend of mine have mixed experiences with Fundulopanchax sp. together with tetras, barbs and other species..
They tend to bite the fintips of these..!!....
I would recommend some kind of Epiplatys sp. instead of the Fundulop.gardneri...
Hi..
I´ve sucessfully kept Hypoptopoma/Nanoptopoma sp. together with Apistogramma spec."Vielfleck" (Assurini).
Then in a fairly long, planted tank.. (90cm).
They were friendly and a perfect match, never bothered or came close to the Apisto-eggs/-caves or fry...
And when the Apistos stated their...

Hi Camille + all..
I´ve kept small Apistos with Boraras-species, Pseudoepiplatys annulatus, Aplocheilichthys macrophthalmus , Aplocheilus blockii , Pseudomugil luminatus and Aspidoras-species successfully in planted tanks without any "motorized filter" .... But .. with some parts of the bottom...
Awesome fish + pics !!
My guess on pic 2-4 :
The yellow color in combination with the short dorsal spines (1-6) + short pelvic fins indicates that it might be a female..
, and "she" also differ from the male in the red(dorsal) + yellow(body) colors + a more abrupt ending of the dorsal fin...
Sorry to hear about the loss..
I`ve never experienced an Apisto jumping out of the tank before..., only killies , tetras, and other fish...
I watched your video again and can only see 3 things that might have contributed to this.
- The female being a small male.. Are you sure that the...
Hi Drayden Farci+ all..
Your sp. Tapiche might be the same Apisto that I ordered from a Chechian wholesaler a few months ago..!!??
These/Mine spawned easily and have fry now. They were named
Apistogramma sp. aff. eunotus Rio Tapiche F1
.. and sure looks like a true eunotus...
I guess the sp...
I guess you may take the male out for a while if he is way too tough , but not as a first option..(This behaviour will most probably stop when she has been accepted in his territory for the 1st time..)
Wait some time and just keep feeding them + keep an eye on how she is doing..
If they have not...
Hi Daneland + all..
The situation looks normal..
As long as your female doesn`t have any broken fins and she can hide or get some rest from time to time.. this chasing is "ok" for now ...
The best thing you can do to come closer to a spawn is to favour her when feeding (maybe with the help of...
(If it was a female from an Apisto-pair missing in a tank I`d wait for at least a week to see if she turns up from a cave with free swimming fry. )
If it`s the last specimen of fish with no medical history gone missing , I would do a smaller waterchange (5-10%) , and then siphoning off/cleaning...
Hi Jeff..
That looks like a female to me.. very black ventral/pelvic-fin + very yellow on the body.., maybe you`ve got 2 females or 1 female+ 1 young male( not yet colored up) ??
Can you add some more pictures of "the couple" ???
/Micke
Hi Mat + all..
I can`t say anything about confirmation of colorform /heritage/original location...
From what I know, the "thickness"/shape of the lateral line + colors (red or blue form/morph) of male filaments/fins are the 2 most typical details to separate/verify trifasciata-heritage...if...
