I have a RO question: my tap water here in NYC is quite soft, relative to tap water found elsewhere around the country. I am curious if softer water, when run through a RO unit, would produce less waste water than water with more hardness.

I would really enjoy some input from the forum on a big project I'm planning. I have bought a 92 gal. corner aquarium - shaped like a quarter cylinder 3' radius and 2' height. I am going to furnish with driftwood and nice plants, Espe's pencil fish and zebra otos. I want to select an...
Papagei
David, I'm thrilled you brought up A. sp. Papagei. I desperately want to get some. I would love it if you could comment a bit more about their 'psychopathic' behavior, as well as your recommendations for the appropriate quarters for several individuals, as well as male/female ratio...
Hello everyone. Someone is offering A. ortmanni for sale, and I don't know much about these guys. I am curious about how desirable this species is and any comments on if they're pretty, challenging to breed, etc.
I just got 6 wild caught bitaeniata and they have a nasty disposition. I put them in a 55, and after they got used to my water (15-20 mins) they all started going ape jockeying for territories amongst the maze of driftwood, ceramic caves, and lava rocks. I have had many captive bred apistos...
A disagreement I had with a furniture salesman led me to do research about mahogany harvesting. He told me some vague crap about Thomasville "replants trees" after I voiced my objection to mahogany furniture. I was disappointed I didn't know the facts neccesary to administer the undressing the...
collecting
I would love to go collecting! I think about it all the time. Finding a good time to get away would be very difficult or me. Also, I got really upset when they started not allowing passengers to carry on any liquids on airplanes. I had daydreams of some idiot airport security...
wholesaler visit
Yes, it was Tony Orso. Very nice man. Before NJAS went to visit his fishroom, I too, tried to contact him and asked him if he would entertain retail walk-in customers. He told me no, he doesn't allow walk-in retail customers. He sells fish to lots of LFS's. His fish were...
Fish source
Try dropping Mark Denaro an email. He imports fish from Europe, Peru, Brazil, a few other places. He runs a great small business selling rare fish, plants, and dry goods. What happens, is he posts availablitiy lists he gets from overseas or wherever and customers request which...
Hello. I am faced with deciding to purchase some A. sp. Tefe blue or A. gephyra. I would love to set up two 20 US gal. long tanks, six fish each for both species, but alas, I'm not quite there yet = ) Mark Denaro, Anubias Design http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anubiasdesign/...
hydra pic
Very kewl pic - Thank you. I was still curious about how big these things are. There is not a sense of scale in the photo. Hold a dollar bill or a coin next to it a take a photo = ) j/k

Kh
The confusion is that the test kit Linda is reading measures KH in ppm, not German degrees. I have an equivalent test kit. It is annoying to me that the color scale doesn't provide readings in Greman degrees (I believe most of the best selling KH/GH kits sold in the bix box pet store...
hydra
I am very curious about hydras, having seen them mentioned numerous times in online forums. I don't think I have seen hydra in my aquariums before - maybe I didn't know what I was looking at though = ) What do they look like? How big are they approximately? Do they have some color or...
Greetings gang! One of my tanks is a 29 gal with eco-complete gravel, a few peices of Malasian driftwood, clay flowerpot caves, rocks and oak leaves that were boiled for several minutes before introducing to the tank. It also has several anubias and two crinums. I am keeping a colony of A...
KH and stuff
Hi gang. Just curious whichtest kits the resident dwarf cichlid gurus use. The ones I have tried don't seem very precise - color changes corresponding to a broad range of magnitude - and I am curious if there are kits available in the US whose scale can be read directly in German...
DATZ book
Hello all. I just purchased the DATZ book from Mike. It arrived today. Wow. Send Mike a check. Get this book. I also own Linke & Staek, the Romer Cichlid Atlas, the Aqualog South American Cichlids II, and the Aqualog Latest Apistogramma update. If you're an Apistophile...
elizabethae
I saw some for sale in New World Aquarium on 38th St near corner of 3rd Ave in manhattan this past summer. The owner is really kewl. If you ask him, he might be able to get you some more. I don't even know his name = ) They have good selection of plants too.
