I am fairly new to this all - I've kept the Apistos for three months in total. I've got a pair of Macmasteri (one male and one female), one Gephypra male, one male Hongsloi, one female Cacatuoides, 3 unknown C. palleatus and 8 unknown P. axelrodi in a 112l. They go well together, except for...
When looking at the pictures I cannot understand why #9 won. It's a photo contest, is it not? I agree - it's a beautiful fish, but the tank is poorly set up and the picture is not that good - at least not better than the other competitors. Exactly what are we to vote on? The fish or the pictures?
Have you tried moving the decorations around when adding new fish to the tank? This helps remove the old territories set by the first fish, so that all of the tank is up for grabs.
1st of all I'd change to substrate to sand. Those black spots do not cohere with what I've read/seen of Abacaxis and it looks as there is no lateral band, and certainly not a broad one. The quality of the photos makes it hard to see the different features. What color is the throat/lips? What are...
I got around to decorating my aquarium with the new stuff I got. The water got a nice golden brown color and the pH lowered itself to a suitable 5.8-6.0. The new heaters also stabilized the temperature and I noticed immediately that a. macmasteri female and the a. hongsloi gained good colors...
Beautiful species. :-) Peat filter the water and keep using catappa leaves I guess? I have about 10 catappa leaves in my 112l tank and the pH dropped from approx. 7 to 6 in just two days, and it's still sinking gradually. My GH and KH is zero from the tap and the pH around 6.9-7.0.
I see. Well I will get you some better pictures once the tank is clear again, it got a bit messy with my remake. The gephyra seems much less shy now as I added catappa leaves, roots & more plants, also turned down the pump flow and covered the surface with pistias.
Regarding the gender of the...
Still a bad picture, but it's what I got available @ my phone right now. The gephyra is very shy and only comes out if forced by the male macmasteri. I will try to get some decent pictures tomorrow. What separates the male from the female regarding macmasteri and hongsloi? Any clear signs in the...
Today I got a bag of free Pistia stratiotes which I added to my tank. A nice dim light in the aquarium now thanks to the lovely plant. I also recieved a couple of batches of Microsorum pteropus and Taxiphyllum barbieri. It's poorly detailed now as I'm still waiting for my roots to arrive.
I...
