Wow I totally forgot about this one. My apologies guys! Anyways. Thanks Mike for your insights. The first and second turned out to be males, the two latter are females. A few pictures are attached for your viewing pleasure. A few hints of orange in the dorsal and caudal are visible...

    agassizii ID & sexing

Hi all! A simple question, which I hope is as easy to answer for you Apisto-freaks as it was for me to ask :) These 4 little cuties where bought as A. agassizii (Peru WC). The largest one, about 4,5-5 cm TL The 2nd largest one, just a tad smaller, about 4-4,5 cm TL The third in row...

    Difference between A. baesnchi Ink50 and Inka1

That was not an aggressive stance, merely a very disappointed one. As there's some queries you don't respond to, though those could help us understand your point of view better and provide for some interesting conversations. Isn't that what we're all here for, to chat and share and compare...

    Difference between A. baesnchi Ink50 and Inka1

Mike, just to be sure: my statement of just 4 pictures was addressed at "ADC Nederland", not you.

    Difference between A. baesnchi Ink50 and Inka1

I cannot help to ascertain you posted only (!) 4 images, 2 males and 2 females just to claim there's two varieties. One doesn't need to have any knowledge at all of statistics to know that the shown differences could just as well be a result of individual coloration, thus not being a...

Hi, From St. Paul, MN, USA

All right cool, that will be a test of patience :-) Always nice to see how someone else who likes the same species as I do decorates his or her tank. I've found many stunning tanks at google pictures just by searching for "[species name] biotope" To see how others put their creativity in a...

Hi, From St. Paul, MN, USA

Hi there. I guess this thread is a bit old, but scrolling though your messages I thought to ask my question over here: can we expect a picture of your 40g Congo tank soon? Just your description already sounds amazing.

    borellii female adopting cacatuoides fry?

Hi Guys and Girls, A question on behalf of some other Dutchman, I'll roughly translate his words: "My cacatuoides are quite productive. This time, I placed some of the fry in my borellii tank. To my surprise the borellii female regained her bright yellow breeding dress, starting to chase the...

    D. filamentosus: distinguishing Orinoco and Rio Negro types

Here I am again :) The pretty male below, Negro or Orinoco? I'm leaning towards Orinoco, but I still find it very hard. Also, I noticed our males have a lot of red coloration in their body, especially above the first two black blocks after the eyes. Is that a location specific thingy, of...

    Pterophyllum Altum Peruensis

Pretty angels :) Regarding the name: in the Netherlands what would be called "Peruvian angels", "Peru altum" or similar names (combinations of Peru / angel / altum) usually go by the name Pterophyllum SP Rio Nanay. A well known breeder of some wild-type angels (at least he's known in the NL)...

    Upper Negro/Orinoco tank (~65 G)

oh, I discovered I failed to mention another thing: at first, the idea was to keep a group of Dicrossus filamentosus. Would that be an option? How many males/females? Is it a 'problem' to add smaller specimens, of possibly another 'type' (Orinoco vs. Negro form)? So, a few questions alltogether ;)

    Upper Negro/Orinoco tank (~65 G)

After having asked some questions, I thought it would be nice to show our current South-American tank. Aquarium 121 x 41 x 55cm / 47.6" x 16.1" x 21.7" Filtration 1x JBL e701 1x Eheim Classic 250 ('2213') de JBL is the main filter, the Eheim is used for peat filtering. Lighting 2x 54W T5...

    D. filamentosus: distinguishing Orinoco and Rio Negro types

Another short question. Recently I stumbled on some interesting statement, regarding the sexual dimorphism of D. filamentosus. A statement that I never read somewhere before. At a German aquarium forum, someone stated males could also be identified by a red/orange speckle below the eyes...

    D. filamentosus: distinguishing Orinoco and Rio Negro types

Thanks Mike! Darrel, good observation on the Pistia leaves. That happend over a period 0f 3 days we weren't at home. I think it has to do with the shape of the closing lid of the tank.
