Minimum Tank Size for 1 Dwarfcichlid

Thanks for your input! If I actually go through with this I’ll probably just go with a Ram. The only Apisto I can both easily find and would want to buy right now is an Agassizii. I think Cacatuoides and Macmasteri get quite bigger. Please note that I wouldn’t keep it in that tank forever, I’d...

Minimum Tank Size for 1 Dwarfcichlid

Hi all! Haven’t posted here in a while.... All my tanks are long gone due to lack of time / space. Only a small tank remains (4 gallon), which until recently housed my favorite betta who died after three years. I’d like a break from my bettas and was wondering if you would house a dwarf cichlid...

    Apistos and plecos.

I’ve always had issues when keeping plecos with apistogramma. Sometimes my ancistrus would eat the eggs at night and on some instances they were being chased all around the tank (gladly there was never a serious injury) . I’d advise against it too.

They really are stunning fish. Apistos in general are stunning, but this guys are by far my favorite. The male in the photo is the best Borellii I had all these years and I'm currently raising one of his spawns.

The fish were in a pretty good shape when you bought them and it's pretty common for them to breed right away, when introduced to a suitable environment. Keep as posted with more pics

    Apistogramma agassizii or cacatuoides

Looks nice! Did you place the filters in the back? I don't think the "frogbite" will develop properly on the surface, judging from its roots. Be sure to add fert tabs on the crypts right away to avoid a melt down. Have you decided/ordered the fish?

    Yep, that's the typical after-spawning behavior ;)

Sounds like they've spawned or soon will. Has she changed coloration? Is she chasing away the male if he gets real close to the site?

    Apistogramma agassizii or cacatuoides

Because my tap water is very hard and I'm already struggling to soften it up properly, I didn't want to add anything that could possibly raise the hardness. That's why I successfully tried Cryptocoryne Balansae that looks like Vals. If the Val's don't work you could give this crypt a try.

Looks good! Are you planning to place Java Moss or Anubias on the woods? Any kind of moss would help providing food to the fry.

Need help with female Apisto Macmasteri while other fish having ich???

Also, if the medicine has methylene blue as main ingredient, it should hurt the eggs, as methylene is used for the prevention of fungus on eggs.

MAN, fish are expensive in the US! I like Macs better than Cacs!

    Amano shrimp

Amanos don't have fans. Maybe you are referring to atyopsis moluccensis?

    cacatuoides color question

I really don't think that the color will fill in. Since he was with other males and now he is alone, his fins will gradually get longer, not more colorful, IMO.
