Sorry the last group of 3 photos, marked as "B2: very difficult to get photos", should instead be "S2: very difficult to get photos"

    Help with Bitaeniata sex id

Hi all, finally I got 4 Bitaeniata, they arrived about 20 days ago and now they start to show some colors, occupy coconuts and the bigger ones show themselves at the top. Can you please help me identify their sex? I read the other threads on same topics in this board, and got some ideas... but I...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Ok, thank you very much for your explanations. I think I am understanding a lot more now. So much to learn... but nature is complex and this is its beauty.

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

But... is it possible to create a complex structure without using artificial things? Is better something like this one: in which there are 4 different corners (supposing enough space on the back), and in which maybe 4 possible territories could be created? (Note: consider the setup and the...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

I want to give 3-4 caves, 4-5 pieces of wood, some leaves (about one third of the total surface?) and some tall plants on one of the short side. I dont know if this is "many" or "few"...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

It could viable but I think with so many dwarf cichlids breeding would be almost impossible... As I understood from previous posts, it would be better to have only one apisto type per tank.

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Maybe it's better only one male and 2-3 females to limit aggression? without taking ibto account that often rare apistos are sold in pair....

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Cooool:) I think i can accept the fact that some fry will be lost... when i'll find some more space maybe I'll create also a "pure" breeding tank. I saw the article of your collecting, there are also photos, from which i can take inspiration for the tank setup! By the way, this is very...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Another update: in same area (according to discoverlife.org, not so easy to use but powerful) lives also Carnegiella Strigata Update: it seems that it only lives in areas with lot of floating plants...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Update: I just found there is a thread in this forum exactly regarding a Rio Huallaga biotope: http://www.apistogramma.com/forum/showthread.php?9900-New-Rio-Huallaga-Peru-Biotope/page2 It's done with N. marginatus and A. baenschei, no plants at all, only floating. Update: there is also...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Ok, you are all right. My fault because my ideas are a bit fuzzy. The key points I'd like to keep are: A south-american blackwater biotope, i dont care about the exact river, Rio Negro is only the most famous and so i started from Rio Negro and his tributaries I'd really like a true biotope...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Sorry, i dont want to bother you... just to be sure and keep together all the info i gather on the internet. I am speaking of the "Paracheirodon Simulans" aka "Green Neon Tetra", max langth 2.5cm (1 inch). Here i read: What do you think? Are we speaking of the same fish?

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

UPDATE: cut&paste from mongabay about trifasciata: It's confirmed that's from southern part of the amazon basin, but it's clearly from blackwater :P And, btw, found these wonderful fishes, N. Mortenthaleri (although they cost really a lot, about 10€ each here in italy): that come from a...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Mmm... still thinking and searching... Ap. Trifasciata is not exactly from Rio Negro basin (like Filamentosus, Trifasciatus, Carnegiella, etc.)... see for example (second is in italian but there's a map)...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

I took a bit of time to do a bit of research, because i didnt know there were so many species of Nannostomus... From what I understood the most "blackwaterish" of the known species is the Trifasciatus. So, I could go with: 1M+2F D.Filamentosus 2M+2-3F Apisto Trifasciata 6-8 Carnegiella...

Possible tankmates for new tank (130 liters)

Since i am a beginner, any suggestion is very precious for me, so thank you very much :D Answers: 1) Cichlids I'd really like to have 2 species to experience 2 different cichlids, but if it's not possible i could give up on this. Do you think that the other species of apisto i mentioned are less...
