Both have about the same size dorsal threads now. And as for as I know, Laetacara thayeri always have the black spot right? (they both have them at home, but also in the video example above which aren't mine)
Here are some photos, they are hard to photograph. The male has a brighter yellow on his top fin + it's longer than the other fish. Furthermore the male has a red/purple-ish glow close to his dorsal fin towards it's belly. On the photo's you can see nicely the fluorescent blue/green around their...
There is very little information on the internet for sexing Laetacara Thayeri. I've bought a male and a female. But I would like to double check here with the experts ;) the first one in the video is which I think is the female and the second one the male. He is a bit bigger.
I'm working on the floating plants ;) the last two weeks they doubled in surface area. Ignore the floating dried ones, still waiting for them to sink.
For now I'll go for a combination of lower water level and lots of floating plants (the water level is actually lower than it seems, the angle...
Sad news. 2 nannostomus & and one tetra so far jumped out of the aquarium. The water is about 5cm under the rim.. I guess I need to lower it more. How much lower would you guys recommend?
Speaking from experience because i was also going for this, so far what works:
Seed shrimp, copepods, california black worms & hydra.
What doesnt work: daphnia
Totally agree with that Mike! But as it is, I don't feel like its a "goldfish in a fishbowl" situation (at all). But yeah, the more space they would have the better.
I appreciate the feedback and understand the big difference between a huge swimming pool of 600 gallons and 60 gallons. But we got to make do with the space we have.
As expected the Laetacara maily keep to the bottom (and then the back of the tank) and when the male sees the female he gives...
Thanks for the info anewbie, but so far the Laetacara are completely ignoring the Nannostomus (and the tetra's which are bigger than your regular Cardinal). So, so far so good :).
Hmm, I was actually thinking of getting some more N. Eques, because I thought they do better in bigger groups...
Little sneak peak:
Hemigrammus Coeruleus, all the time at the front quite schooling, chunky and beautiful (the camera doesnt do the silver with red stripe and white tips on the fins justice) When its feeding time they attack like piranhas
Nannostomus are grouping together all the time...
A few days in and all of them are doing fine. Eating well and behaving normally. So yup the NO2 was just fine I think!
Thank you both for all your help. Soon when they aquarium is totally set-up I'll post some pictures. I really like the Nannostomus :)
