    Help inducing male to spawn...

I have a heavily planted 30-gallon tank. Water parameters: pH: 6.4-7.0 (depending on the CO2 at any given time) KH: 2-3 GH: 2-3 NitrAtes: 7-13 NitrItes: 0 Ammonia: 0 PO4: 1-2 I am having a terribly difficult time getting the male to be interested in the females. I have two females...

    Cacatuoides and German Rams...

Over the past twelve hours or so, there have been quite a bit of 'showing' or posturing going on  . The apistos have chased the rams around a little bit. I'll keep an eye on them. Both are such beautiful little fish. I believe if I can get them to cohabitate, my planted tank would be...

    Cacatuoides and German Rams...

Can German Blue Rams and Apistogramma Cacatuoides coexist in the same 30 gallon tank? I have a pair of each. The blue rams are juveniles right now. Thanks for any help anyone can give! DP

    A. cacatuoides...

I finally got the fish in (after some serious 'deliveryman' problems). We'll see how they do. By the way, if you are looking for some Apistogrammas I highly recommend ApistoDave - I cannot tell you how pleased I am with his help in my getting this little fish. Thanks Dave!

    Breeding apistogrammas (cacatuoides)

Thanks guys. I don't really care about raising apistos to sell; however, it would just be cool to see the parental behavior in action that I've read so much about.

    A. cacatuoides...

So, I could place three females and one male in the 58 and one female and a male in the 30 with minimal problems? BTW, thanks for the help! DP

    Breeding apistogrammas (cacatuoides)

I have a question that might be somewhat naive, but here goes... why do most people suggest a bare bottom tank for breeding? what must I do to breed in a well-planted aquarium? I would think that breeding should easily be facilitated in an environment that is like the natural one for...

Dimensions for the 30 gallon cube: 20.5 x 18.5 x 21.5 It is not very big at all. It is well planted. The fifty-eight is also a planted tank. I wanted to put the apistos in the 30 because I thought I could get the pH down easier in that tank. My pH in the 58 is about 7-7.2.

    A. cacatuoides...

I will try to put the fish in a 58 gallon tank, then. I believe I can fit three females and a male in that sized tank: That is, if I have not misunderstood your post. I'll put the other female and male in the 30 cube. Do you believe this to be a 'safer' arrangement? Thank you for your...

    A. cacatuoides...

I plan on buying some triple reds from an auction site on the Net. I wonder: For a 30-gallon cube, can I house three females and one male? Or would this be too many cichlids of this species in that sized tank? Would two females and one male be better? The bid is for pairs of...
