Your ph should be ok. You also might want to check your other parameters, such as hardness, ammonia, etc.
What are you feeding them?
It would also help if you could offer a little more info about your set up. Tank size, tank mates, types of decorations.
I have had apistos that will eat snails. Never saw one get stuck, although, I did have a wild caca who tried to eat an oto. It was stuck halfway in his mouth for a few days. I also had to catch him, and pull it out. Caca was fine afterwards, oto - not so good.

Well, since I posted, I was able to find a pair, which turned out to be two males. I am now down to one. Anyone know the whereabouts of any more of these wonderful fish, especially some females?

I took the trip out there. I picked up a pair of C. regani's. They are happily enjoying their new 30g. I think the l.joselima has to come out of that tank. He is a little too territorial. I want them to spawn, and he will surely eat the fry.
