keeping dicrossus maculatus is a good lesson. 1 male and 2 females in addition to dither fish would be probably enough for this size (140cm long 280 liters) of the tank. i can keep 3rd female and i do, but does not seem she wants to spawn as clearly there is no room for her. 2 spawning females...

thanks yes that is strange behaviour, maybe someone else can advise us. with relation to feeding i use vinegar eels to feed the tiny size fry in early stage, in addition i believe there is plenty of microorganisms that fry can be feed with in my tank.

What submersed would you use to mirror upper rio negro forest brook conditions. I was thinking about Myriophyllum sp which Mike Tuccinardi used in his biotope tank or egeria najas. Did you see these plants in upper rio negro or any other submersed plants?
