Im about to set up a 33G Long. It measures 48x12x12. If my goal is to have them breed, How many apisto species would I be able to have and how many males and females of each would I be allowed to stock? I was thinking the following ...

Apisto Borelli 1f/1m
Triple Reds 2f/1m

Cherry shrimp
Otos (for algae control)

Too much ?

IMHO it isn't a good mix. A. cacatuoides are more aggressive than A. borellii and will out-compete them for breeding territories. If it were me, I would choose only one of the species. The numbers depend on the species you decide to breed and how complex the tank is decorated.

Ok, thanks for the input. How about if I ONLY but in borellii thats heavily planted with multiple broken lines of sight? How many males and females would be appropriate?

Hi all,

I've kept multiple males in a smaller tank, but two would probably be the limit, as you would need at least three females, and they all need their own space at the bottom of the aquarium.

It also depends a little bit on how you define heavily planted. I like a lot of plants and structure. This tank had Copella arnoldi and A. agassizii.

There weren't really open spaces.

Apistogramma borellii
may <"be safer with your shrimps"> as well, even though I think they will still eat them over time.

cheers Darrel
