Single Apistogramma Cacatuoides?

Hey everyone! Newbie here, and the board looks great! I was thinking about getting a species only cichlid tank, and I saw a beautiful male Apistogramma cacatuoides. I was wondering, can I have a single male without any females? I understand your supposed to have 3-4 females with a male if your going to have females, but would it be healthy for the male to be by itself? Also, what type of tank would be best for him? I am thinking about getting a 15-20 gallon, is this a good size? Thanks everyone!

Keeping an apisto by itself is not going to present a problem for the fish. You may not see him very much until he gets over the shyness that is generally a part of every apisto's personality. A. cactuoides is a dood choice for a specimen tank, because teh tank-strain color varieties look good in any mood, whereas other species often show better colors when aggressive towards other apistos. Once your fish is big, beautiful, outgoing and used to living alone it will be a great show fish!

Thanks for the response! I was wondering if they prefer more plants or rocks in their set-up? I'm looking into responses based on set-up. Thank you for any help!
