In this article they describe one of this species' foods as "hop crabs".
Been breeding tropical fish for nearly 60 years but I have never heard of such an animal by this name. What in the heck are "hop crabs"?

Unless there is an unknown freshwater crab in those waters I'd probably think it's a name lost in translation. In German we call copepods/cyclops "Hüpferlinge" which translates to "hopperlings". Maybe it's them. They are found everywhere in the world.

You are right, we should better have translated "Hüpferlinge" as "cyclops" ;)
