CO2 in a Planted Tank is very beneficial if at the proper levels.
CO2 is what plants need to grow more rapidly. It also helps prevent Algae Blooms.
CO2 in Excessive levels can suffocate fish. The Ideal range for CO2 in a Planted Aquarium is ~30 PPM. if you're injecting CO2, your PH should be 1 full point lower than your water without CO2.
If your water is extremely soft, KH below 3, then you'll need to raise the KH before injecting or you'll be looking at a tank CRASH which can kill fish as well.
