Does anyone keep keyhole cichlids? how do they breed? how do most cichlids behave if they are about to breed? The scenario I have is the one i suspect to be male is chasing the female around the tank and is becoming more agressive to the other fish(otos)
I was at the LFS and got this little cutie:
I have her in a 20 gallon with 2 keyholes (2 inches and 1.5 inches) a gold ram(1.5 inch) and a brichardi(1.5 inch) I know(now...after i found out the LFS lied) that is too much fish, but i dont know what to do. I could loose the brichardi. I could...
Would a paradise Gourami be a good tankmate for my 2 keyholes, gold ram and a brichardi cichlid? I need a top swimmer to liven up the top half of my tank. I was thinking Gouramis, hatchetfish, danios, barbs, angelfish? what woul work?
I have a 20 gallon with 2 keyhole cichlids, a gold ram and a neo. brichardi. They are housed with 4 neons and 2 otto cats. The neons always seem sickly, they dont do well in my tank, thier colors dont show up well. I was wondering, is there a better small fish that will stay out of the way of my...
My keyhole cichlid looks as if there are red worm like things sticking out of its anal hole. its body right before it has a very slight depression. Is this a parasite? What can I treat it with? All my lfs has for parasites is had-a-snail. Thanks
Im planting my tank so i am changing my gravel to smaller. How should i do this in my 20 gallon keyhole, gold ram, tetra tank? Should I push the old gravel to one side, add half new and wait a few weeks to add the other half? or should i put all my fish in a small tank while i switch the gravel...
My keyholes and gold ram have the same water parameters as brichardis. I have some people who have told me that they can exist just fine together and others are wary of it...will this work?
My keyholes are about 1.5 -2 inches. Which i am assuming is a sexable size.does anyone have any photo reference how to tell the difference or know how to tell? I know they are one of the more difficult fishes to sex.any info would be great
My gold ram and my keyhole ciclid are picking on each other. This is odd to me because I was told keyholes are extremely peaceful for a cichlid, but that is the one starting the fights. Could this mean that it is a male, (because my ram is a male )and they are fighing for territory?
Has anyone kept these cichlids?they are also called Umbrella cichlids. what size do they get? i heard 4 cm is this true? because thats a small fish and if they are that small that would be awesome
This is my healthy, male gold ram, at least I assume its a male. What do you think?

Would a Betta go well(or at all) with gold rams and keyholes? There is also guppies and tetras in the tank. would a betta give something for the rams to chase rather than my really shy keyholes?
My juvinile keyhole is swimming very slowly with clamped fins. He has white stringy feces. Im assuming an intestinal infection? what do i do? would Melafix help?
