    Breeding tank size?

Awesome set up! That is pretty much the same as what I plan to do with mine. I am just using half of a double garage so I got roughly a 5m wall to use. I am really counting on the heat in the summer to make sure my tanks stay warm. I don't plan to have heaters in my tanks, I am not sure if I...

    Breeding tank size?

Thanks for the input so far. I either have two options and a bit more freedom as I haven't built the stand and ordered the tanks yet. The tanks I do have at the moment measure 110cm x 50cm (w) x 45cm (h) which I was going to use to colony breed them with 1-2m 4-5f and just go from there, but I...

    Breeding tank size?

Hi again everyone, I am about to put my current breeding set-up for sale and it's nearly time to order new tanks. But before I sell my set-up I am wondering what size tanks are ok for a pair of apistos. The tanks I'm selling are 2ft(L) x 40cm(w) x 1ft(h). I am thinking of replacing them...

    Opinion on my breeding project..

I have been rethinking my whole project and I think I'm gong to opt for two separate racks and house my apisto sp. in their own 2x1x1 tank and in just pairs rather than colonies I was thinking before. And as for filtration I might just get 2 massive air pumps and some sponge filters, as for the...

    Mites in the substrate??

Thanks Viejo! Hit the nail on the head, Typed amphipod into google toolbar and BANG! that is exactly what it is that I have. Any idea of how they could have come about? I'm pretty sure my dwarf cichlids will eat them, if not, something will. Thanks for the answer! Cheers, Matt

Any idea what's going on with my water?

Thanks for the calculation!! I currently have my lights suspended diy style about 10-15cm or so from the top of the tank and plan to move them a little closer to the top of the tank as my crypts seem to be growing up towards the surface rather than in a nice clump. But my tank is finally...

Any idea what's going on with my water?

My co2 unit isn't very flash. pressurized 2l bottle goes into the bubble counter/diffuser (dupla combo). My co2 gas only lasts two week. The fish seem to be fine and the plants are growing Just slower than normal. I am going to hire a probably a 5kg bottle from BOC(gas company) they'll do it for...

Any idea what's going on with my water?

The only reason I would like the softer/low ph water is really only for my discus & apistos. Mind you my pandurini's are showing fantastic colour. but my viejitas are taking a really long time to fully colour up. But I always tell people if there is nothing wrong then don't do anything...

Any idea what's going on with my water?

Thanks for the replys, I use ADA Amazonia 5mm and 3mm black rocks. My tap water is quite normally around 7-8 and thought with the wood it should stay at around 6. kh is 160ppm and gh I am not sure. My co2 unit is terrible, i need a new regulator and my 2l bottle lasts about 2 weeks [pretty sure...

Any idea what's going on with my water?

Hi everyone, I have a 6x2x2 planted tank with co2, tonnes of plants and some driftwood. I was really really happy not long after I set it up to see that my ph sitting at 6 and kh and gh really good. However, I tested my tank the other night and much to my disappointment my ph was sitting at...

    Opinion on my breeding project..

I am opting for the sump as the tanks i acquired already have the holes drilled as they were from one of my LFS and they were just going to break them and bin them. so I took the opportunity to build a new set up. my current two foot set up just take too much time like having to fill up the...

    Opinion on my breeding project..

Hi guys, Time for a bit of brain picking.. I am currently in the slow process of setting up a new breeding project which I was going to purchase 3 types of Tropheus sp. to breed until I was talking to a LFS owner who told me that he would recommend a colony of these fish not a pair / trio...
