Mixing S. casuarius and S. tinanti

As the title says, A few weeks ago I bought a nice male S. tinanti (4" long) and four juvenile S. casuarius. Currently they are in seperate tanks. The issue I'm having is the tinanti hides in his cave and does not come out. At first I figured after a few weeks he would settle in and come...

    S. tinanti LFS has...

Well I changed my mind and bought four S. Casuarius that were born in the tank at the LFS. They are about 1" to 1.5" long. I got all four plus one about .25" for $8.99. I love raising small fish!

    S. tinanti LFS has...

I have a 33 long that is 48" x 13" x 13". Currently only inhabitants are a few cory's and a few tetras. Water is semi soft with a ph of about 6.8. Lots of rocks and caves. My question is should I buy one tinanti or three/four? I'm going over to the store soon and see if I can sex them...

    Giving back

Dear Forum members, I was one of the winners of the prize drawing. I really did not become a donor to win prizes (much appreciated though), I did it to help this wonderful forum. I would like to make a challenge. The prize I won is a $25 gift certificate to the Amazon Basement. I am going...

    Steatocranus casuarius

Would adding some water jets to the bottom of my tank (to simulate their natural environment) add any benifit for these fish. The fish are doing fine, they just seem to breath hard and i was wondering if the addition of water movement aide them in their breathing? Thanks in advance, Tony

I made a donation yesterday and I urge all other readers to do the same! I do not know Ted but do know a good cause like running this forum should be supported by its members.

    Steatocranus casuarius

Well its true you can't stop a genuine pair from breeding! The problem its my GBR pair that did last night, (probably not a good mix?). Needless to say they are defending their eggs and chasing all intruders successfully, so far.... The GBR pair are not full grown and I have little...

    Steatocranus casuarius

Thanks for the replies! I made the move yesterday, and so far, all is well! It seems the female is more annoyed with the cories then the male. She chases them a bit while the male just looks at them. Regarding "pairing", does sharing the same cave indicate the two are "paired"?

    Steatocranus casuarius

Hi, I saw these guys last week at the LFS and I had to have them! They had about a dozen and said they had had them for a long time. Not a big seller. This is the same store were I got my trio of nanochromis parilus. I plan on putting them in a 36"x18" tank (65 gal.) soon. They are...

    Nanochromis parilus update

Well its been a few months since I bought my trio and I thought I would give an update. I seperated one of the females because I thought the other two would pair together. She unfortunately did not last with my Mbuna's. I was housing her there temporarily and I guess I did not get her out...

    nanochromis parilus

Well things are progressing with these guys for sure! I put the lone female back in with the other male and female. She was dominating the rams and some new cory's (C. schultzii gold shoulder) too much for my liking. This is my transition tank, I usually try new species in this tank. So...

    nanochromis parilus

Well I seperated the lone female from the pair. I say pair but I'm not familar enough with the species yet to accurately determine if they have paired. It was obvious she was the dominant female and the other female was getting harassed more, but since I moved the lone female out, the female...

    nanochromis parilus

Alright, now that I see the trio has survived I'm curious if having one male and two females is a bad idea. I'm thinking the male is showing less agression towards one female while the other female may be getting harrassed. When this species pairs, is it obvious? I mean if I don't witness any...

    nanochromis parilus

Bite my tongue, I just spied her in a cave. Tricky devils are'nt they!

    nanochromis parilus

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep looking but no luck so far. I'm fairly certain the other female is gone, but I'm not going to tear the tank apart to find out. Based on the behaviour of the existing pair, it does not suprise me that they killed the other female. The male is rather...

    nanochromis parilus

Hi, I got a trio of these last week and have them in a 36" long planted tank. I'm having a hard time finding the second female. Is it possible the male killed her because he paired with the other? I see no visible signs of this and all pameters are fine otherwise. There are no other predators...
