Looks selective bred but since you're sure it's wild, good on you. Nice fish, I get my fish from Orange so regardless of them having inferior genetics - they're precious to me.
Let me start off by suggesting a tiny fish called Rasbora Maculatas, they are easy to find and are very good with a pair of apistos. If you want Boraras brigittae because they are prettier, go ahead, but they cost more as a dither fish.
The Maculatas will give the Borellii more confidence in...
Hi and welcome to the best forum for Apistogramma on the web! We have beginners and intermediate plus gurus on this forum, ask away if you have any questions. Some of us here like wild-caught apisto, some prefer domestic bred fish because they are more hardy to keep.
I for one love the...
Thanks for your reply mate - I currently have month old fry that number close to 50 and the 2 foot tank (approx 60 litres) that house half the number of fry for now, the rest of the fry(25) are in another tank but will be transferred to main 2 footer for grow out and this tank will be the one...
Hi folks
Will be away for 2 weeks and have ordered Ycozy branded automatic feeder from amazon, was wondering if anyone has tried it and if its good(web reviews on amazon suggest its the best feeder out there) Its retailing for A$40 delivered for 1 unit. I will half fill it with Hikari micro...
Welcome back to the fold! Must have been hard staying away - the game has changed in 20 years for me, I've learnt how to use an RO filter to increase my breeding success with certain rarer fish. Its been incredibly fun!
MacZ, we use the metric system in Aust. No need to be so confrontational when replying, we are here to learn from each other.
I can have my opinion and you can have yours. I stock my tanks - 2 footers for one pair and my Cacatuoides are pretty docile.
What I meant is that when...
Tank looks good with your choice of plants, if you were to get Cacatuoides the new tank would be perfect, I did a quick calculation and its ideal for a pair of apistogramma. Only other fish I would add are some dither fish - to give the pair of apisto bit more confidence so they won't hide all...
Behaviour is pretty much an individual fish thing - some are more aggressive than others. I had A. Hoignei that were chasing fish 3 times their size around in a 60 litre 2 foot tank.
Would choose the Baenschi over the rest as they are a bit more special; Panduro are bread butter fish and quite...
Quite the opposite, breeders usually remove the male to another tank after the fry become wrigglers.
Keep in mind its usually the female who is the aggressor when she is watching over a brood of fry. After the male has done his job(fertilisation), its a good idea to seperate the couple so you...
In my opinion- get the newer tank as its suitable for a pair of apistogramma, you get the assurance of a new tank(no leaks!) and when they are ready to breed, the smaller tank is easier to fish out the male after he has fertilised the eggs too.
Hi all,
I recently ordered some wild-caught Norberti on a list by a reputable wholesaler in Australia, but these came in instead. I was pleasantly surprised as I have not kept this species before BUT I am wondering what sort of conditions should I be keeping these fish at? My current 60 litre 2...
Very nice! Thanks for the warm welcome, I did have a good line of Borellii Opal going till I lost them.
Undemanding fish and not fussy with food too.
Dad and offspring :
Hi all,
I was wondering which Apistogramma species is the most rewarding to breed for you guys?
I have my personal favourites - Baenschi is relatively easy to breed and for me doesn't result in deformities; I have had a bunch of Megaptera that had almost a quarter of the spawn with deformities...
