Setting up territories for breeding cacatuoides pair

Nice! Wish we had some quality agassizii here in South Africa. Only other dwarfs is SA are Rams, Kribs and Tanganyikan shell dwellers.

Setting up territories for breeding cacatuoides pair

Thanks for the tip, The fry are now free swimming for about 2 weeks and doing well and there's even some golden strain fry in the brood... I saw the male hunt one of the fry down about 12 days ago and moved him to the 4ft long GBR tank...I turned down the temp to about 24c to try and prevent...

Thanks Mike, I didn't even think of that. Real case of overthinking on my side, missing the obvious solution LOL

Setting up territories for breeding cacatuoides pair

Hi all, I have a breeding pair of cacs in a long 25g (110L) tank with 5 pygmy cories and 3 otto's. The pair has bred a few times and normally I remove the male when fry are free swimming, this time I would like to keep the male with the female and fry. I believe that my female will be taking...

So, how do I do this

Thank you Mike, I've adjusted the tank, added 2 coconut caves. When the plants fill in there should be even more hiding places.

So, how do I do this

Hi all, After years of looking for Apisto's in South Africa, I found what I think is a young male cacatuoides. His total length is about 4cm. After finding him I managed to track down someone who has a a new batch of babies. The little ones will be ready for sexing late December or...

    Wildcaught Mikrogeophagus ramirezi sex ratio?

Hello SK, Some nice fish you have there! I have never owned wild caught ones, but I THINK the ones with more red on their bellies are females. They look young so maybe it is too early to be sure Here is my best quess. Pic 1 maybe male. Pic 2 female but it is very big for female Pic 3 middle...

    Laetacara Curviceps

Well, unfortunately I only managed to save one baby, it is about 15mm long now. But there is a new batch on the way, they started swimming yesterday, and they've had their first couple of BBS feedings As you can see the female is almost completely black. Regards Martin

    More Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

Ok, so nothing came from that spawn. The "spare" female made sure that no eggs survive, she is now in solitary confinement. This is a new spawn, with the male over the eggs. Regards Martin

    crypto's dying

Hi chris1805, I also have a 120 liter (Juwel Lido 120) with some stem plants melting away. I also do 20 liter water changes every saturday. Later it dawned on me that they started melting at about the same time that I changed from 100% tap to 50/50 ro and tap water changes, about 2 months ago...

    More Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

:DMine doesn't eat it, he just swims it out of the substrate, probably not a salad lover;)

    I thought rams paired....

I have the same thing happening in my tank with 1m 2f GBRs, the only issue is that no fry survive as the females now eat each others eggs. The poor male doesn't know which side to choose so he just gets out the way and watches the carnage. I'll be moving my "spare" female soon. The male does...

Please help me choose my first Apistos

Unfortunately I will not be getting apistos anytime soon. We could not get decent rates on airfreight from Hungary to South Africa. The reason is all the crap happening in the middle east, our local airport (OR Tambo) is now rated as "high risk" so that puts an end to my apisto experience...

    More Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

Yip abrooks12376 , that is glosso, not doing to well in that tank (slow growing and algae trap), might replace it with Hemianthus micranthemoides.

    More Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi

Forgot to add some pics of the tank... I'm quite happy with the way it turned out so far, just need the carpet plants to, well, carpet LOL In this pic you can see where they spawn (flat rock on the left) and where they moved the wrigglers (wood in the middle) This is just a overall shot...

Please help me choose my first Apistos

Thanks for the replies guys, Well, we managed to get some cacatoides form the suppliers, I'll get them instead of the pebas, I've never had apistos so I would rather start with the cacs as they seem to be the starter apisto. I've also ordered some vielfleck, hopefully they make it. I'm still...
