I would purchase a tds meter and test your Ph, its not too expensive and makes it easier to replicate the conditions again one they spawn for you.
although I use the same water, substrate and décor both my tanks have different ph and tds.

My Borelli fry have now been free swimming for over a week, I've got around a quarter of my original batch but seeing as its her 1st try and over the moon.

I have only had this group for about 6months and am currently working them up to hopefully breeding.
It would be interesting to see what par. people manage to breed them in.
currently mine are in a 60litre with external filter, bogwood caves and leaf litter which im not removing when it has...
we decided that a ro unit was pointless as we have a tap ph of 6.4 we instead purchased a HMA filter.
removes all the bad things in water but leaves the positive bits and also means ph doesn't have to buffered.
I would suggest it is a female.
I have posted photos of my f1 trio, 1 male and 2 females.
the shape is closer to the females than male.

After some deliberation my friend took my Angazzis she has a community tank and isn't worried about breeding them, moved in on Monday and all are doing well.
I managed to lower my Ph by adding some RO water just in time for my new fish to arrive.
They have come from Peter Clark and I can't...
I currently have 3 appistogramma angazzis which no mater what I do they will not breed.
The male is a captive flame and the females are wild blues.

I am thinking of moving the trio on and buying some new stock but being based in Scotland decent appistos can be hard to come by...
sorry for the wee lass, this happened to me recently as well. Was a bacterial infection that only became apparent after I introduced her to the tank.
I had started treatment but wasn't lucky enough to save her but the rest of the fish survived and are all healthy!!
I recently purchased 2 wild females which we just labeled as wilds, under more investigation and lots of calls to the suppliers my lfs told me they were the blue strain collected from Rio nanay river in Peru. Don't know if this helps the ' where they are from question.

Mike you are right pardon my mistake, he is (and I quote from PFK) a "Flame" apparently from the Czech Republic. He is however housed with two female wild blues from the Rio nanay river in Peru. Obviously they aren't as keen to be photographed.
